One Week || Xdinary Heroes ✔︎

Day 1

[a couple months ago]

A recent deadly virus had broken out a week ago. Some scientists were working on a cure for said virus but miscalculated the cure and made the virus worse. The people they had been experimenting on started going savage, attacking anyone who came close to them. After getting a hold of one of their experiments, the scientists found out the cure actually turned people into zombies.

When trying to find out what had happened, another one of their experiments had broken out of the lab and was now on the loose. The virus was highly contagious and could take effect pretty quickly.

After the first person got bitten, the virus spread like wildfire. More and more cases of this virus popped up all over the world. Every country soon went on lockdown, only the workers assigned to fix the virus were allowed out. But this didn't last for long as people got infected from inside their homes. This brought on a zombie apocalypse that destroyed city after city, town after town.

Most places were replaced with piles of rubble, flames, dead bodies and much more. The population decreased rapidly and almost no one was left. The apocalypse was nicknamed 'World war 3'.

[present day]

There had been no progress in ending the virus. Zombies still roamed the empty streets, looking for victims.

Xdinary Heroes has retired from making music when 'World war 3' started. They still stayed together as none of them had seen any unaffected humans at all. They found a high school that seemed to have no zombies hiding away in it and had set up camp there.

Jooyeon and Jiseok had been sent out to find food as their supply had gone low. When the two boys made it back to the school, a crowd of zombies started chasing after them. Jiseok grabbed Jooyeon's wrist and ran back as fast as possible, using his other hand to hold the bag of food.

They made it back to the school and yanked open the doors, hearing the sound of it slamming behind the pair.

"We're back!" Jiseok yelled out.

Gunil, Jungsu, Seungmin and Hyeongjun made their way to the entrance as soon as they heard Jiseok's voice.

"Hey, you too. Got anyth- Oh my god!" Gunil interrupted the sentence with.

"What? What's wrong?" Jooyeon asked him.

Gunil stood there with his eyes wide open for a bit, then turned around and walked back to where they previously were. 'That was weird and confusing'  both boys thought. Jungsu then proceeded to face Jooyeon and Jiseok and speak, pale as a ghost.

"So, uhh... your right hand is missing" he said to Jooyeon.

Jooyeon looked down to find where his right hand was was now a bloody stump. Short reddish-purple lines sprouted from the wound, indicating the zombie who bit off Jooyeon's hand infected him with the virus.

"Guys, I think we got a problem" he stated.

"Hmm?" Hyeongjun hummed.

Jooyeon held out his right arm towards the four other boys. Their eyes widened when they caught sight of his hand, well, stump. Seungmin made the first move and took off his hoodie, wrapping Jooyeon's arm in it to stop him from bleeding out.

He then walked Jooyeon to their medical area of the school. Jooyeon sat down on one of the chairs and watched Seungmin scramble to get everything. Once he seemed ready, Seungmin took the seat opposite of Jooyeon.

"Besides loosing a hand and possibly getting infected, was the trip successful in any way?" he asked, carefully unwrapping his wrist.

Jooyeon hadn't heard what Seungmin said as he started to zone out to distract himself from the pain.

"-yeon. Jooyeon!" he screamed right in Jooyeon's ear.

"Huh? Oh, sorry. I spaced out for a second" he replied.

"It was much more than a second. You've been sitting here for two hours and didn't even move when I finished fixing your hand the best I could."

Jooyeon saw that his whole right arm from his wrist to his elbow was bandaged. Seungmin tried to do the best he could but some blood still soaked through it.

He thanked Seungmin before getting up and going to see why Gunil had just walked off. As they had been hiding out in the school since this started, Gunil has found a small room he could use as an office. Jooyeon walked down the halls of the school and arrived in front of Gunil's office. He could see through the crack under the door that a candle was lit which meant Gunil was definitely in there. He knocked on the door, hearing a "Come in" and walked into the room.

"Hey. I came to ask why you just walked off when you saw my right hand missing" he asked, sitting down on the floor beside Gunil.

"Oh, hi Jooyeon. I saw the state of your missing hand and came here to see what would happen now" he explained, not looking up from the paper in his hands, "This paper I have is what will happen to bitten/infected people."

Gunil hands the paper over to Jooyeon who nervously took it. His hands shook as he laid eyes on the paper that would basically describe his future. As he scanned the page, tbe first thing that caught his eyes scared him.

If a human is bitten/infected, their time of survival is a week and by the time they got bitten next week, said human will be a fully turned zombie. This only applies to people who don't get the cure.

"I'm going to be gone in a week?!" he screamed loud enough for the others to hear.

"Sadly, yes. There's no cure so there isn't a way to fix this" he spoke softly, "The symptoms are written under that so you should read them if you want to know what to expect."

Jooyeon did as Gunil said and read over the symptoms.

Below are the symptoms an infectee should expect during their last week. All of these symptoms stack:

Day 1 - Spacing/Zoning out

Day 2 - Hallucinations & voices in head

Day 3 - Colour loss in vision & bloodshot eyes

Day 4 - Extreme fever/sickness

Day 5 - Fainting

Day 6 - Memory loss

Day 7 - 24hrs left

By the time he finished reading over the symptoms, the other four boys had rushed into Gunil's office. Jooyeon looked up at them with tears in his eyes after he was done with the paper.

Jooyeon broke down with soft cries as everyone engulfed him in a big hug. He sat there crying for about 5 more minutes before he did his best to pull himself together.

"Y-You probably h-heard but I- b-but I only have a w-week le-left" he sniffled.

"We heard" Hyeongjun responded, "Is there any way to postpone it considering there isn't a cure yet?" he turned to Gunil.

"No, there isn't. Jooyeon's gonna turn in a week whether we try to do something or not."

The whole room was dead silent aside from Jooyeon's sad sniffles. Even though he'd miss the members, he would try to be strong for them.

"I'm going to go to bed now and try to get some sleep" Jooyeon announced, standing up, "I'll see you guys in the morning."

Jooyeon left the office and headed to the gym where they all slept. He crawled into the tent he shared with Jiseok and got into the sleeping bag. However, Jooyeon couldn't sleep that night. His mind kept wandering back and forth on how in one week, he'd be a zombie trying to murder the other members and that it might lead to them having to kill him. Jooyeon, however, managed to fall into a restless sleep and tried to put that thought far away.
