Chapter 1, page 1

A few weeks had past since when the incident and happened. The others forgot about it but, Basil was still a little upset about it. Sunny was a little upset at first too but he learned to get over it, like he always does.

Today was the first day back to school from summer break. Sunny's face was smooshed into the bus window, he was looking at all the houses. The bus comes to a stop, Basil gets on and plops himself next to Sunny. They always sit on the bus together. Hero and Mari were in high school now, so the love birds were on a different bus. They most likely were sitting next to each other, just like they did when they were still in middle school. Kel didn't show up today for school, last time the group all met up with each other, he wasn't feeling well so that's probably why. Aubrey was sitting with Kim. Kim wasn't in the friend group but she was still a great friend to Aubrey. Normally, when Aubrey wasn't hanging out with Mari, she would most likely be with Kim.

"So...are you excited to meet our new teachers, Sunny?" Basil spoke up, he wanted to know how Sunny was feeling, instead of how it was always the other way around. "Not really.." Sunny muttered. Now that they were in public he was back to his quiet self.  "Well, we have almost all our classes together which is good because then we won't have to try so hard to make new friends." Basil muttered, trying to get Sunny to be a little more open and talk with him. "Well I guess that's nice.." Sunny didn't seem to care that much considering he wouldn't talk to anyone no matter who was in his classes. The two of them sat in silence for the rest of the bus ride to school.

Once they got to school, they parted ways. Basil went to get breakfast because he was still a bit hungry, but Sunny went to go find his first period class. When Sunny found the class, he picked two seats in the back of the class for him and Basil to sit at. Aubrey was also in the class, but she was probably gonna sit with Kim and her little gang...or whatever they called themselves.

To Sunny, it just sounded like Aubrey just wanted to be more popular so she started hanging out with the 'cool' kids, instead of her normal friend group. He didn't understand why Aubrey would want to try to join another friend group. For him, it's already too much for him to deal with when having just one small group of friends. He just likes being with Basil. It was Basil and him against the world, and that's how it always was gonna be. The two of them never fight, and they don't plan to anytime soon.

It was about 5 minutes before class was going to start when Basil finally found his way to the class. He takes a quick second to examine the room, his eyes make their way to the back of the room. His eyes lock with Sunny's, you could see a small blush appearing on his face when he made eye contact with Sunny. He could feel the heat creeping on to his face. As basil walks over to him and Sunny's seats, he stares to the ground, not making eye contact with anyone. He was embarrassed by this blush, he didn't understand why it was happening..Sunny was just his friend, nothing more, so why? Why did this keep happening to Basil? And how does he stop it?

Basil plops himself into his seat, he just stares at his legs. "So um...first day! I can't wait to meet our teacher, I hope they're nice." The blonde boy fidgets with his thumbs while he spoke. "Well, normally homeroom teachers are chill because it's the morning..." Sunny mumbles. Basil's head perks up, "you're right Sunny, homeroom is like- the easiest class of the day! This will be fine, we don't have to worry." Basil lets out a relieved sigh, he turns his head to face Sunny. He had a bright smile on his face. Sunny gives him a reassuring smile in return, "yeah, don't worry." Just as he says that, the bell rings, class time.

The class was silent, but then, they all hear footsteps leading up to the door. The doorknob turns, all eyes were on the door, the whole class was wondering; "was that our teacher?" The door opens, it was their teacher. She was around 5'8, she had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. She looked nice, the class prayed that she was. The teacher makes her way up to the board, she takes a blue expo and writes; "Ms. Elle". After that, she goes to her desk and she speaks up, "Good morning class, I am your homeroom teacher. You can call me Ms Elle or Ms E, whatever is fine."

All the students speak in unison, "Good morning Ms Elle!" Some voices deep, some high pitched. Sunny stayed quiet the whole time, not caring for meeting the new teacher. "Since today is the first day, you will be doing 'Get to know me' worksheets." Ms Elle spoke with a bright smile on her face. She came around the classroom and started to pass the papers around the room. The questions were pretty basic like; "what's your favorite color" or "what's your favorite school subject?". It was just busy work, nothing too time consuming. "You have ten minutes to complete this, and then I have another activity for you." Ms Elle spoke out once more, making sure the students weren't just playing around. Sunny and Basil got to working on it.
