Violet's phone rings, indicating that she has gotten a text notification.
She reaches for her phone immediately, it's been 3 days since she saw Luke at Guitar Center and is uncertain to why he hasn't texted her back. After the text he sent she responded with " Can you tell me what i said now?" He read it immediately but did not give her a response. She assumed it was because he was at work, but he never texted her back.
She reads his message.
daddy : So do you really not have any memory of what happened at the block party?
She decides to wait to text back. She doesn't want to give off the impression that she's desperate and has no life. Unfortunately for her, that only lasts about eight full minutes. She then sends him a text back-
violet : I don't. refresh my memory so I'm not worried about what my neighbor thinks of me anymore
daddy : Hmmmm say please. Luke responds
violet : No way.
daddy : Well you must not really want to know.
violet : you were supposed to tell me 3 days ago!
daddy : i have a good reason for not telling you, you know.
Mid-conversation, violet decides to change Luke's contact name. For receiving his messages with the name daddy from him is something that seems weird to her when they barely know each other. Plus, she doesn't want her mom to see a notification from that name, it'll cause her to ask questions.
violet : and that reason is?
luke : don't take this the wrong way. i'm not sure how i feel texting someone your age.
violet : ummm you don't know how old i am.
luke : i can take a guess.
violet : try me
luke : well, i assume pretty young since it was your first time drinking the other night and youre an extreme lightweight.
violet : pffffft. im no lightweight
luke : besides that, your clothes, your voice, i can tell youre young. you might not even be 18 and i'll get in trouble for texting you.
violet : then why are you texting me? actually why did you want my number and why did you save your name as daddy?
luke : I'll admit my impulsive thoughts win sometimes. i wasn't thinking of your age the other day. just how cute you looked.
violet : cute?
luke : mhm.
violet : maybe you shouldn't flirt with me if you don't know my age.
luke : well, tell me how old you are so i know whether or not i need to take my compliment back.
Violet sends him a link to a song.
violet : "dancing queen by abba"
It's about three minutes before luke texts her back.
luke : so you're seventeen.
violet : maybe
luke : and when is your birthday?
That's a creepy question he thinks to himself, while sitting on his sofa. But violet responds with a lie.
violet : in one month
Adrenaline hits violet as she sends this message. She knows not why. It feels exciting, risky? She closes her eyes and the first thing she pictures in that head of hers is kissing Luke.
