(Third person)
SMG3 seemed pretty excited to go out now and see the world, and he was even showing the most emotion Four had seen so far. Currently, they were walking towards the Inkopolis train station, where the Jellies let them on for free since Inkopolis is cooler than the Deepsea Metro 😎
"You look happy," Four said. He smiled and stepped onto the train alongside SMG3, who quietly sat down and stared out the window. Four found the way he looked at everything in awe kind of cute... not that he said anything. "That's Inkopolis out there," he explained, smiling at the ink-stained buildings that stretched into the sky, the clear blue sky, a sign of freedom. "But we're not gonna go there yet. Not right now, at least..."
SMG3 glanced back at Four. "I know. Well- I- read the sign. Since that is Sign Script's... intended purpose. After all."
Oh, yeah. That's...kind of stupid to forget. "Well, we're going to another place called Splatsville, since you should probably get registered to participate in Turf Wars and the whole battle system. Well- you don't have to actually battle, but being registered also lets you do this and that and blablablablabla..."
That's all Three heard as he kept looking out the window, anyway. Does this guy ever shut up? Everything about Inkling culture seems loud, colorful, and bold... even the heavenly melody. I guess I can't really be one to talk, though.
Even if the main, largest Octarian dome displayed the sunny sky of the surface, many of the Kettle domes were lit up by neon lights and other blaring decorations. Not to mention the unique sound of Turquoise October's music filling up the battle areas.
SMG3 reminisced about the sounds of his former home and watched the tall streaks of gray, Inkopolis's buildings, fly past the train, before all the colors and sounds died out and he could only see a dry, orange desert...
The Splatlands.
Saiko's home, Deep Cut's land, the country of chaos... it seemed so empty out there in contrast to the crowded city. But that wasn't a bad thing- the open sky, without the surveillance tech flying around like Octo Canyon, without Superjumping squids everywhere in Inkopolis Square, seemed welcoming.
The warm, clear air rushed into the train as it came to a stop, picking up a passenger before it continued on its way, and now all anyone could hear was the sound of the train rumbling along the track. The passenger, a fuschia-tentacled Octoling with a hairstyle similar to... an Octoling soldier? sat down next to SMG3. There was also a small Salmonid with her, lazily sleeping away, which seemed to catch Four's attention as he started in confusion. SMG3 wondered why.
"Hey."
Huh... She was talking to Three now...?
Four spoke up now, saying "Sorry, he doesn't really speak Square well. What did you say?"
"Oh, sorry then," she said. "I was going to ask if he was a Splatlandian, since he's kinda wearing their style. I've never been there, though, so maybe it was wrong of me to stereotype-"
"You've never been to the Splatlands?" Four asked her. "Are you from Inkopolis? I've been to Splatsville a bunch of times, is there anything you need to know in particular?"
The Octoling seems distant, lost in thought, smiling a little. "Not really, just seeing a friend of mine, mostly. Hey, we're here already."
"Well, have a good visit!" Four smiled brightly at her.
"You too. And, uh..." Suddenly, she switched her script. "...see you around, maybe."
"Did she just-" SMG3 looked dumbfounded, watching her Smallfry hop after her, out of the train. That... that was Runic, wasn't it?
