Tom's house.... 1 month after Robotnik is defeated.

Sonic carefully placed two plates on the table, followed by silverware and glasses. He had taken the time to prepare a simple yet delicious meal. They place a T-bone steak on Y/N's side and a chili dog on his. Tom and Maddie were out of the house so they though now would be the perfect time to ask Y/N.

As Y/N peacefully slept in their dog bed, unaware of the preparations being made for their date, Sonic couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. He wanted this evening to be perfect, to show Y/N how much they meant to him.

Once everything was set up, Sonic carefully approached Y/N's dog bed, not wanting to startle them. He knelt down beside the bed, gently shaking Y/N awake. As they slowly opened their eyes and blinked sleepily, Sonic couldn't help but smile at their adorable, sleepy expression.

"Hey, sleepyhead," Sonic whispered softly. "Time to wake up. I've got a surprise for you."

Y/N groggily sat up, rubbing their eyes and stretching their limbs. They looked up at Sonic, curiosity evident in their eyes as they wondered what the surprise could be. Sonic motioned for them to follow him to the dining area, where the table was set.

Sonic pulled out a chair motioning for them to sit. Y/N was confused.

As Y/N sat down in the chair, still puzzled by the situation, Sonic couldn't help but chuckle at their confusion. He took a seat across from them, his green eyes filled with warmth and affection."Surprise, Y/N," Sonic said with a grin. "I wanted to do something special for you, so I prepared a little dinner date. I hope you like it."Y/N stared at the food on the table, their eyes widening in surprise. It was a T-bone steak, perfectly cooked and seasoned, sitting in front of them. It was a rare treat for the fox, as they had never experienced such a meal before. The aroma wafted through the air, making their mouth water with anticipation.

Sonic flicks a lighter on lighting a candle with a grin.

Sonic: Go on. eat.

Y/N looked at the food before ravenously began eating it.

As Y/N devoured the T-bone steak with gusto, Sonic couldn't help but laugh at their enthusiasm. He watched with delight as they enjoyed the meal, their eyes sparkling with newfound joy and contentment. Despite their usual reserved nature, Y/N seemed to let their guard down completely in this moment, savoring every bite of the delicious steak.

As Y/N finished their meal and sat back in their chair, a satisfied smile graced their features.

Sonic noticed a smudge on their muzzle. He reached over with a napkin to get it off, but Y/n growled at his hand.

Startled by Y/N's growl, Sonic quickly pulled his hand back, his eyes widening in surprise. He hadn't anticipated such a reaction, not after the enjoyable meal they had just shared.

"Whoa, hey, it's okay," Sonic said, holding up his hands in a gesture of peace. "I just wanted to help you clean up. You've got a little something on your muzzle there."

Y/N stared at Sonic, their eyes filled with a mixture of confusion and fear. Their instincts from the wild had kicked in, reminding them of the dangers of physical contact. Sonic realized that he had unknowingly crossed a boundary, his attempt to help triggering Y/N's trauma.

"I'm sorry," Sonic said softly, his voice filled with genuine remorse. "I didn't mean to scare you. I forgot that physical contact can be uncomfortable for you. It's okay, Y/N, I won't touch you if you don't want me to."

Y/N remained tense, their chest rising and falling rapidly as they tried to calm themselves. Sonic respected their boundaries, giving them space and allowing them to regain their composure.

"Let's just enjoy the rest of the evening," Sonic suggested, a gentle smile on his face. "No more surprises or physical contact, I promise. We can just talk or do whatever you feel comfortable with."

Y/N's tense posture slowly relaxed as they realized Sonic's sincerity and understanding. They nodded, their eyes meeting Sonic's with a silent gratitude.

And in that moment, as they sat together in the quiet of Tom's house, Y/N felt a small spark of trust and a hint of something new -- a budding connection that had the potential to grow into something beautiful.
