A few hours later...

Tom stops the car in front of a small gas station. Tom steps out of the car and puts a hat on to avoid suspicion. Y/N is still curled up sound asleep in the back.

He goes up to the passenger window.

Tom: I'm gonna check in with Wade, see if he knows what's going on.

Sonic: Your gonna see Wade in that glass thing? What is it a teleportation box?

Tom chuckles, his eyes flickering with amusement. "No, it's a phone booth. It's used by drug dealers and fugitives that run from the law like us. Stay in the car I don't want anyone seeing either of you."

Sonic nods, his expression serious as he watches Tom head towards the phone booth. He turns to Y/N, his voice hushed as he speaks. "Hey, you awake?"

Y/N stays silent.

Sonic lets out a sigh, his eyes flickering with concern as he watches Y/N's chest rise and fall with each breath. He could see the exhaustion in their eyes, the weariness that came from a life of constant danger and survival. He reaches out to brush a strand of fur away from their face, a small gesture of comfort.

Y/N shifts slightly in their sleep, their body curling tighter into a ball. Their claws come out and swipes their hand away.

Sonic recoils his hand back, his eyes wide with surprise and a slight hint of pain. He looks at Y/N, his expression apologetic as he realizes he had invaded their personal space once more.

Sonic: Sorry, sorry. I shouldn't have done that.

Y/N's body remains curled up; their eyes still closed as they continue to sleep. Sonic lets out a sigh, his eyes flickering with a mix of frustration and understanding. He knew that Y/N's behavior was a result of their past experiences, and as their self-proclaimed best friend, he wanted to do everything he could to make them feel safe and cared for.

Sonic: (to himself) I guess sleeping is probably the most peaceful thing for them right now. It's just too bad they don't talk. It would be nice to hear what's going on in their head.

Sonic grabs the steering wheel and begins making car noises, he looks off to the side and sees a bunch of people on motorcycles jumping over firepits, around fires, and drinking, Cars that have fire coming out of them. Sonic looks at the places sign big words are lit up in red "PISTON PIT". Sonic has stars in his eyes.

Sonic's eyes light up with excitement as he watches the daring stunts and festivities happening at the Piston Pit. His adventurous spirit and love for adrenaline rushes kick in, and he can't help but feel the urge to join in on the fun.

Sonic: (grinning) Hey, Y/N, wake up! You gotta see this!

Y/N stirs slightly, their eyes fluttering open as they slowly come to. They see Sonic's eager expression and follow his gaze towards the Piston Pit.

Sonic: It's a crazy place called the Piston Pit! People on motorcycles are doing wild stunts and having a blast. I thought it would be an awesome place to check out. What do you think?

Y/N yawns before going back into the back seat and laying down.

Y/N's response is a simple shake of their head, indicating their disinterest in joining in the festivities at the Piston Pit.

Sonic: Alright, no problem.

Sonic struggles to keep his excitement under control wanting to respect Tom when he said to stay.

He then spots a pair of shades and a cowboy hat with a poncho in the glove box and gets an idea.

Sonic grins mischievously as he retrieves the shades, cowboy hat, and poncho from the glove box. He slips on the shades and adjusts the cowboy hat on his head, his excitement practically radiating from him. Then, he dashes out of the car and into the Piston Pit. Y/N just Yawns as all that happens.
