Marilyn's pov
It was Friday morning, the weather seemed a little chill than usual, and because of that I had concluded that it'll be a good day.the other days had been filled with stress and voluminous assignments all in the name of preparing us for waec and neco,I just couldn't wait to rest during the weekend.
Every Friday, the school always dismissed by 1pm, because we always had a compulsory sport practice from 3pm till 6pm,during these hours ,we practiced different sports like volleyball, basketball, football and also track events like relay races, short ,middle and long distance races. When it came to sports,no other school could beat Charleston high,it was part of the school's pride.
"Mr. Louis Obinna is coming!" Jolaade warned, her voice laced with a mix of dread and urgency. My heart sank, and I swiftly pulled out my chemistry notes and textbook from my bag. Ugh, I hated that man with a passion! He was our chemistry teacher, and his draconian rule was infamous - if we didn't have our notes and textbook ready before he entered the room, he'd unleash a notoriously difficult question upon us, one that was sure to leave us all stumbling. No one wanted to be on the receiving end of that, so we all scrambled to comply. I rolled my eyes, feeling a sense of resentment towards Mr. Obinna's strict ways, but I knew better than to disobey. With a sigh, I prepared myself for another grueling chemistry lesson.
Few minutes ,he entered the class and we all stood up to greet him
Good morning sir"
"What's good about the morning "he asked sarcastically and laughed, this man liked to feel like the funniest man alive but instead he was Annoying"you can all sit down"
Immediately we sat,we all heard the sound of a desk opening
"Get up, that boy" Mr. Louis barked, his finger pointed at Pedro. I watched as the entire class turned their attention to him, the girls gazing at him with a mixture of admiration and adoration. They looked like they wanted to crawl into his skin, and I was sure they were thrilled to have an excuse to ogle him.
Pedro stood up, his tall frame unfolding from his seat, and I couldn't help but notice the way his eyes locked onto Mr. Louis with a hint of defiance. "Why do you students refuse to follow simple instructions?" Mr. Louis spat, his words dripping with disdain. He stalked closer to the class, his hands slapping against the desk in front of him. "Remind me, what's your name again?"
Pedro's deep voice replied, "Pedro Barlowe," and I couldn't decide what was more captivating - his velvety voice or the way he pronounced his last name with such precision and charm."Pedro barlowe,is it because of that your dreadlocks covering your ear ,you don't hear simple instruction again"
Pedro just stood tall looking at him
"You know my rules, I'm going to ask you a question and if you don't get the question correct,I will deduct 5 marks from your first term examination score"he threatened but Pedro looked unfazed. but was that even a threat? Is first term examination waec or neco?
"Which has more calories : table sugar or aspartame?and give a detailed explanation"
Surprisingly the question was a bit easy to me and I already knew the answer,so I expected Pedro to answer the question effortlessly
"No idea"he blurted out immediately
Mr Louis chuckled and faced the board"Anyone who wants to help him answer??" A minute later he faced the class and looked at Pedro"a whole sport prefect, young man,if you can't answer and any of your classmate or friend can't help, then you'll leave my class"
I waited a minute to see if anyone would answer but no one did,so I raised my hands
"Okay, Marilyn ajibola you can answer"
Immediately he called me to answer, I looked at Morgan and he was already looking at me with a mischievous smile on his face and I definitely knew he'd mock me for it later
