The pair of the two dragons raced across the Sky Kingdom as they tried to get as far as possible from the Kingdom of Sea. Nightroar landed on the ground with a heavy thump as Emerald approached him.
"Thank the moons we were lucky not to get our tails bitten," the sky-blue dragon scowled. "We might as well head straight to the lost continent." Emerald joked around as Nightroar kept his face tense. Emerald handed Nightroar their dark blue egg as he felt it around his talons. It was cold and smooth, it was going to hatch someday and be a beautiful dragonet.
"We need to find a safer place to live. I can't understand why the tribes won't allow hybrids," Nightroar protested. His face was full of anger, sorrow, and fear. He had to abandon his tribe to stay with Emerald and she did too.
"Say, why don't we head to the Night Kingdom?" Emerald suggested.
"I'm not so sure. My tribe has been seeing me sneak out the past couple of nights. They might think I'm conspiring with the SeaWings." Nightroar let out a sigh as he patted the smooth egg shell. Nightroar's ears perked up as he heard wingbeats coming from the west. "By all the moons! We have to deal with SeaWings and NightWing soldiers?"
Emerald immediately got up as Futureseer handed the egg toward her. They flew a little south-west when a pale purple SeaWing soldier caught up to them. She hurtled into Nightroar as he shrieked. The soldier raked her claws at his underbelly as Nightroar let out a breath of flames. The SeaWing shrieked in pain as she retreated burning.
"That'll keep them a little while," Nightroar muttered. Emerald prodded his shoulder as Nightroar almost fell out of the sky. He turned and saw a patrol of NightWings hurtling towards them. Emerald growled and flew down into the forest.
"Emerald! Where are you going?" Nightroar called to her.
Through the faintest little noise, Nightroar heard her call back, "Somewhere to keep the egg safe!" As Nightroar looked down at the beach Emerald headed towards, his heart lurched with panic. Three SeaWing soldiers were heading that way toward Emerald. Nightroar prayed to the moons that Emerald had safely hidden the egg.
Maybe in a bush, he thought.
But caught out of his train of thought, a large NightWing threw their tail at him. Nightroar nearly lost his balance and shot through the air. The bright full moon and half moon shone its light to him. Nightroar followed its path of moonlight when he got caught in a dead end at a mountain. Nightroar slowly turned around as his dark green eyes went wide with fear.
"Well, well, Nightroar. It's been a while hasn't it? Let me introduce myself once again. I'm Deathseeker," said the midnight, black dragon.
