I haven't seen Taylor since my Dark Day or everything that happened after. Not because he's blowing me off, but because he's finally practicing with the team again. When he isn't at practice, he's doing some sort of PT or rehab to help his body stay healthy even with the added strain. He's cancelled all of our tutoring sessions. I tried to argue that it's not smart for him to stop caring about school now that his real goal is within reach, but it's like talking to a brick wall that whines and tells me I remind him of his mom. Taylor at least agreed to keep working together from a distance. He emailed me a paper, and I shared some notes from our biology lecture.

Even though I haven't seen him, we've been in constant contact. Meaning messages, funny pictures or reels we've seen online and thought the other would like. They hold nothing of value. Which is even more confusing. I feel like I'm searching said brick wall for a message etched in its stone that probably isn't even there. Taylor isn't exactly the keep in touch type of guy, especially with someone he isn't actively trying to sleep with. His willingness to communicate with me isn't groundbreaking, but it has to mean something, right?

Regardless, not all relationships in my life are stagnant. Alyssa and I have broken new ground when I realized that Anderson is Taylor's roommate, and Alyssa's new boyfriend. They apparently hit it off after we met at Cal's house. It explains her new and persistent absence from our dorm almost every evening. But aside from that, I now have a new insight to the innermost workings of Taylor's life, and how I might somehow fit into it. Friends, or whatever. Alyssa demanded I fill her in after I got home from the rage room. I was apparently glowing in a way that she knew wasn't from any beauty product or methodical routine.

I spared her the more gruesome details about my past life, and stuck to the few instances that Taylor and I have found ourselves alone outside of the time we're legally obligated to interact. The real focus was on the new level of vulnerability we've reached each time. Alyssa's opinion was still inconclusive though. If Taylor saw me as more of a friend, she had argued, he would have made a move beyond the comforting touches.

I had already made that conclusion on my own, but Alyssa still told me to keep doing what we're doing. That there is obviously something about our time spent together that is keeping both of us invested and coming back for more. She urged me to trust her, and even offered to give me her life coach's number if I needed even more validation.

I reluctantly agreed to the former, so here I am, impatiently waiting for Taylor to say something.

He agreed to finally meet in person for our last scheduled session of the week. It only came after I saw a coach follow him to our biology class to make sure he was actually going, and then the same coach followed both of us to the tutor center. We lasted a whole fifteen minutes in that room before making sure the coast was clear, then made our way to Harry's. Taylor insisted he couldn't retain any information without food.
