"Get back!"
Jason screamed as he swung his baseball bat into the rabbit creature's head. The creature stumbled back, but it didn't stop moving. Charlie kept Lucia behind her as she held out a Sledgehammer, ready to protect Lucia if she needed to. Lucia stood behind Charlie, fearing for her life, cowering as if she were a scared child. The rabbit creature stood, laughing maniacally as Jason kept his baseball bat steady.
"GET AWAY!" Jason yelled. Charlie held the sledgehammer close as Lucia held a rusted metal pipe. Suddenly, Charlie saw Lucia run past her, gripping the metal rod.
"WAIT!" Charlie screamed, but it was too late. The creature raised its arm high above its head, the knife that was in its hand shining in the dim lights. Charlie watched helplessly as Lucia looked up and saw the downward swing of the rabbit's knife.

WELCOME TO HURRICANE, UTAH.
SOON TO BE HOME OF THE MEGA PIZZAPLEX.Charlie smiled wryly at the sign and kept driving. The world didn't look any different from one side of the sign to the other, but everything still felt odd to her. John was sitting next to her in the car, smiling gently. He was wearing a light-green, button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the collar open, and a brown long sleeve jacket with gray jeans. He had fair skin that had light wrinkles, green eyes, and brown hair that was greying at the sides. Neither her, nor John recognized anything at first. Then again, neither of them really expected to, not this far at the edge of town where it was all highway and empty space. Charlie wondered what the others would look like, who they were now, and she knew John did too. Charlie hadn't seen any of them since her and John had gotten married, and as time passed, they had grown apart, the letters had grown fewer and further between. But this time, the conversations leading up to this trip hadn't been perfunctory, or full of awkward pauses. Instead, they were full of joy, excitement, cheer, and even happiness. Charlie repeated their names as though to reassure herself that she still remembered them: Carlton, Jason, Jessica, Lamar, and Marla. It had been a while since all of them had been together, mainly since the wedding, but Charlie knew things would still be different. John and Charlie passed a nearby diner, "Baby's Diner" It seemed to be a new local restaurant in Hurricane. Charlie shivered and turned down the air-conditioning, even though she knew it was not the cold. John noticed this and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"It's ok, Charlie," John assured her. "It's over now." Charlie smiled as she glanced over at John, still focusing on the road.
"I know, dear," Charlie said with a smile. "It's just hard to think about what happened." John let out a sigh.
"It is for me too." John thought, thinking back.

He had come into the room cautiously, afraid to wake her up. The room was dark except for the light filtering in through the small dirty window, and she peered at him for a moment as if she could not see him.
"John?" she whispered at last.
"Yeah," John said. "Did I wake you up?" She was so quiet for a time that he thought she was asleep. Then she murmured, "You said you loved me."
The memory turned bitter there, and it had been nagging at him ever since—since everything ended. You said you loved me, she said, and he had babbled nonsense in response. He stood in the gravel parking lot for a moment, feeling woefully unprepared. He tapped his hand nervously on the metal fence post, then took a deep breath and went through the gate. Slowly, he followed the path he had once watched Charlie take, hindered a little by the brace on his ankle. Most of the cemetery was as green and well-kept as any park, but this corner was all scrubby grass and dirt. Two, small, plain tombstones sat together just beside the fence, a telephone pole rising behind them like a sheltering tree. John took a step toward them, then stopped with the sudden feeling that he was being watched.
"John?" Called a familiar voice. John's eyes widened. He turned in a slow circle, and then he saw her. She was standing beneath a tree just a few yards away, where the grass grew lush and green. She smiled, and extended a hand, beckoning him to her.
Charlie? John thought, but he didn't speak. He stood where he was, completely silent. For a moment the world seemed blunted, his mind had gone numb. He could feel that his face had no expression, but he could not remember how to move it. He looked back at the stones with a sharp stab of longing, then swallowed and took steady breaths until he could move again. He turned to the woman under the tree, her arm still extended, and went to her.
"How are you alive?" John asked. Charlie giggled to herself.
"How about we take a walk, John?" Charlie asked. "I'll explain as we walk." John smiled; he liked the sound of that.

As she drove into the town center, Charlie began to recognize things: a few stores and the movie theater, which was now advertising spring's blockbuster hit. Charlie looked at her watch. Her and John had a few minutes before they all met up. Charlie pulled into the Parking Lot of the Movie Theater before turning to exit. Then she drove down the main road for a few minutes, although it felt a lot longer; it felt more like hours. When her and John reached the restaurant, Charlie pulled into the lot and stopped. Charlie parked the Car and turned it off before getting out alongside John. The front of the diner had a long picture window all across it, and she could see right inside. Though they had not seen them for years, it took the couple only a moment to spot their friends through the glass.
Jessica was easiest to pick out from the crowd, even without social media pictures. Jessica was fairly tall, thin and fit looking. She had glossy, shoulder-length blonde hair that had parts of it dyed brown, with gray streaks in it as well. She was wearing a pink mock-neck tee-shirt with blue short shorts-style jeans and wears white earrings. She had a purple jacket on and was wearing a belt along with purple high heels.
Carlton was taller than before. He had red hair that had a grey streak running through it, was held in place by a hair product. He still had a young-looking face for his age. says he's almost pretty for a boy. He was wearing a black workout shirt and a dark, sage green jacket, with black slacks, shoes, and a Bracelet on his wrist. He was slouched forward on the table, resting his chin in his hands.
Marla had plump arms, fair skin, and dark-brown hair that was turning slightly gray. Her eyes were reddish-brown. She was wearing a loose dark-red blouse, silver-gray pants, and a black Jacket. She was wearing a Watch on the inside of her wrist, and there were some wrinkles on her body. She was also wearing dark gray socks and red heels.
In a chair in front of the table, right in the middle of the window, was Lamar. Lamar was tall and thin, with dark skin and hair shaved close to his head. He still had sharp and attractive features and seemed to have just a couple more grey streaks in his hair than the rest of the group. His skin was wrinkled just a little bit more than the rest of the group as well. He was wearing a white t-shirt beneath a grayish-red blazer. He was wearing dark gray pants, and a black leather belt with a silver strap. He was also wearing some light-gray shoes with dark gray soles.
Also sitting in the booth was Jason, Marla's younger, half-brother. Although Charlie and John just barely recognized him. He was taller, and less Wirey than before. His skin was still darker than Marla's, and he still had Freckles on his face. He was wearing a simple dress shirt and Black, Ripped Jeans, which revealed a scar on his leg. That was the only way Charlie and John managed to recognize him. He was also wearing dark gray, slip on shoes with short white socks.
Looking again at all of her and John's friends, Charlie glanced down at herself. Purple T-shirt, denim green jacket, dark blue jeans, and combat boots with rubber soles. Then, Charlie and John went into the diner to meet her friends for the first-time years, Charlie locking their car behind them as they went. The warmth, noise, and light of the restaurant hit the two of them in a wave as they entered.
