Chapter 85: Little Nezha...It's Him, It Really Is!
After having a warm lunch together, Xu Hengzhou instructed Xiang Chen to pack the essentials for the next couple of days. He advised leaving the rest of their luggage on the side for now and dealing with it when they moved.
Xiang Chen nodded in agreement. Xu Hengzhou filled his thermos with hot milk, intending to provide some food as well, but with Jia Wenxing expected to return in the afternoon, he had to abandon that idea.
After reminding Xiang Chen multiple times to shout if there were any issues or to seek help from Zou Sinan next door, Xu Hengzhou left to find Lin Jiayan based on the address Lin had left.
Even though they could postpone working in the fields until tomorrow due to Jia Wenxing's delay, they still needed to learn first. Only after demonstrating some proficiency in the tasks would the village start counting their contributions. To avoid any suspicions about the source of their food, Xu Hengzhou needed to create a positive impression by showing diligence.
With Xu Hengzhou gone, Xiang Chen took out the necessities such as towels and thermos, and arranged them neatly. He then sat on the bedding prepared by his brother, reading the book Lin Jiayan had left for him while sipping milk.
Around three or four in the afternoon, Xiang Chen heard voices outside. Quickly, he sealed the thermos, wiped off the milk stains from his mouth, and tidied up.
Just as he finished, Jia Wenxing entered, followed by Yuan Wei and Zou Sinan.
Seeing only Xiang Chen in the room, they were momentarily surprised. Zou Sinan, straightforward as always, asked directly, "Where's your brother?"
Xiang Chen replied, "He said he doesn't know how to do farm work. An inexperienced person should observe first, so he's checking how others do it."
Zou Sinan smiled, "You say your brother is foolish, aren't you afraid he'll beat you?"
Xiang Chen was speechless. He was just being polite; he didn't expect anyone to take it seriously.
It was Yuan Wei who, after hearing Xiang Chen's words, seemed to be lost in thought for a moment. She then showed a somewhat regretful expression on her face.
Seeing them enter, Jia Wenxing only spoke to Xiang Chen, glaring at him discontentedly. He then turned to Yuan Wei, saying, "What's the point of talking to this little kid? Come on, you need paper, right? Check out these, maybe they'll do."
He took out a bundle of paper from his luggage, likely torn from a notebook, with uneven edges but still of acceptable quality.
Upon seeing this, Yuan Wei took two sheets and said, "These will be enough for me. Thank you, Comrade Jia."
"Not a problem, not a problem," Jia Wenxing laughed, his eyes nearly disappearing, "How can these two sheets be enough? Here, take some more."
Jia Wenxing generously tore half of the paper and handed it to Yuan Wei. She declined with a smile, but Zou Sinan quickly added, "Hey, give me two sheets."
Jia Wenxing hesitated, reluctant in his heart, but with Yuan Wei watching, he could only give Zou Sinan two sheets.
After keeping the remaining paper, Jia Wenxing intended to continue chatting with Yuan Wei. However, Yuan Wei, pinching the paper in her hand, politely excused herself, "Comrade Jia, I'll go back to writing my letter now. Thank you for the paper."
