**Chapter 19: Chuckles**

Cytherea could not tell how long they sat there. It was enough that her breakfast had worn off, and she was now hungry. Her stomach kept trying to communicate with the damn sea king; it was being so loud. She had known hunger before, but after getting used to eating three to four meals a day, her stomach acted like it didn't matter that they were in a sea king; she needed to eat now.

Sighing, she dug through her hip bag and pulled out two meal bars. She handed one to Wire and opened the other one. Wire seemed confused at first by the random food source; she just shrugged and said, “I've gotten used to eating when I'm hungry, so I keep stuff on me at all times. These bars have a shit ton of calories, basically a full day's worth. Should keep hunger away for a bit.”

The man nodded and took a big bite; he froze at sawdust taste and texture. Cytherea laughed at the man's obvious disappointment with the bar. She continued to snicker and said, “I said it would fill you up, not taste good. If you want to starve, I'll eat yours too.” Wire continued to eat the bar; it was fast, like he wanted to get it over with. He sighed and said, “I just wish we could wash this shit down.” Cytherea hummed in agreement as she focused her haki on their surroundings.

“Huh, good news! I'm pretty sure we are in the mouth.” Wire's heart rate fluttered, and he pushed out a breath. Cytherea stared at him, and suddenly the tall fishnet man erupted in laughter. It was a gruff, deep laugh, but it was contagious. Cytherea couldn't help but laugh with him; she didn't know what was funny, but she laughed anyway. After a few minutes, Wire said, with laughter in his voice, “Your haki is strong; sometimes I forget that you are blind.”

Cytherea flushed with embarrassment; she crossed her arms and stuck out her lower lip. Wire's laughter started up again, and Cytherea just pouted more. She muttered, “It's not nice to tease someone who is blind, Chuckles.” Wire patted her back, a bit harder than necessary, and said, “Cyth, your haki is another level, but if you could see, you would know the sea king's teeth are in front of us now.”

Cue more of Cytherea pouting; she turned her back to the man, pulling her knees to her chest. “You are a lot like Captain; I understand why you two get along.” She turned to look at him with a frown, curious about his observation. He continued, “Captain is hot-headed, sure, but he cares deeply about his crew. He is also very sensitive about what others think of him. It makes sense, really, especially after knowing how much trouble we went through to find you.”

Cytherea turned around and faced him, still pouting, but she mumbled, “I made sure I was in a port that you guys frequented. It shouldn't have been hard to find me.” Wire leaned back on his hands and continued his explanation, “We were headed to our hideout and turned back when we got news of your location. It turned into a whole ordeal with storms and a fight against some of Big Mama's crew.” Cytherea said, “Huh, why the hurry? I was fine to wait.” Wire turned his head and said, “You didn't know the Marines were targeting you and were closing in?” She shook her head, putting her hand on her chin. She had a lot of resources, but none of them told her this.

Before she could ask a follow-up question, the Sea King started to shake violently. Wire stabbed his trident into the Sea King's tongue and looped his arm around her waist, pulling her close. The Sea King seemed to be swimming straight up. Wire hung on to his trident, and they were lifted off the ground, almost to be tossed to the back of its throat. Sea Kings started making sounds; it was deafening, echoing through its body. The tongue started to thrash around, and Cytherea clung to Wire tightly.

The Sea King opened its mouth, and water rushed in. Cytherea used her Haki to tell where they were. She was hoping they weren't still underwater. She yelled over the sound of rushing water to Wire, “WE ARE AT THE SURFACE! THE CAPTAIN FOUND US!!” They could feel the metal on them being pulled; the seawater had to be affecting their captain's power.
