𝒮eptember fifteenth
Storrs, Connecticut𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻'𝘀 "𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲" played in the shop as Leilani continued her progress on Zariah's waist length, blonde, knotless braids.
Zariah and Leilani had been friends since the beginning of freshman year. Moving to Storrs from Baltimore was a big adjustment for her especially considering she didn't know anyone besides Paige.
She didn't want to be one of those girls that only ever hung out with her girlfriend so in branching out she me Zariah.
Zariah was a polar opposite of Leilani and surprisingly it brought them closer. Z was a homebody and Lani hated home and loved being outside. Introverted vs extroverted. Anything you could think of Leilani probably would do the opposite.
Their friendship was deeply rooted in the high levels of accountability they had for one another. Which was very refreshing because her friendship with Ryan was more so advice based.
Ryan was the first customer that Leilani took when she opened up shop and was always there if she needed a shoulder to cry one, it came especially handy when her and Paige broke up a little over a year ago.
All in all the trio was locked it, no switching up ever.
"Stop moving your fucking head bro." Leilani said, fighting the urge to get up and walk away.
"Oh but if I tell your clients that this is how you treat your customers I'm the bad guy? It's crazy out here y'all!" Zariah replied, shaking her head extra dramatically to get on her nerves. "And where's Ryan with my Chick-Fil-A?"
Almost as if he had a cue, the pair heard the bell on the door chime and watched Ryan walk through the door, a fry tucked between his teeth and the bags of food in hand.
"Y'all's favorite has arrived!" He exclaimed walking with an extra pep in his step this Friday afternoon.
"Can you just give me my food please? And who told you to stop braiding bookie?" Zariah asked, she's been up since 7 for her first class of the day, and in this chair for the last 4 hours.
"Ok no more cutting up in my salon, now what?" Leilani said, but she definitely continued to continue braiding.
It was 6:15 and she had planned to meet with KK at her dorm at around 7.
"Okay relax."
"Can you chill out?"Leilani laughed, taking a sip from her lemonade. "That's what the fuck I thought. Now sit down and let me be great!"

𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 recently purchased desk chairs with her binder out and "Snooze" playing through the speakers.
"Paige Madison Bueckers you have 5 minutes to get up out of here before I have your ass." She said, looking down the hallway in the direction of her room.
Aubrey and Nika, their other roommates and teammates, had left hours ago. Nika to see her man her man her man and Aubrey Husky's, the bar on campus, with Ice and Aaliyah.
Paige slowly walked out of her room. She had on black sweat pants and a black graphic t-shirt, her hair in a slick back bun.
"Why? I'm gonna sit in my room and let you study, I promise." She said.
"No... you're gonna come out here and flirt with her and then I'm not gonna learn anything. Paige I beg." Her phone began ringing and she answered.
"Hey sista girl!"
Leilani laughed on the other side of the line. "Hey! I'm here, about to get in the elevator. I just wanted to let you know."
"Okay great! I'll see you in a minute." Saying their goodbyes and hanging up, KK found herself on her feet walking closer to her teammate. "Go to Ted's, go be with your old sneaky link, I don't really care but you're not finna disturb me." She pouted, pushing her towards the door.
"Okay, okay fine I'll go!" Paige, reached for her keys on the hook, put on her Birkenstock Clogs, and walked out of their dorm room. "You owe me one!" She yelled, closing and locking the door behind her.
Paige honestly didn't feel like going out tonight, considering she would be going out the next night, but she pushed the thought to the back of her mind and pressed the down button of the elevator.
What she didn't expect when it opened was to be face to face with the woman who was everything to her just 12 short months ago.
Black flared leggings with an olive green cropped t-shirt. Her backpack slung across her shoulders. Her hair braided into a long slick back ponytail. She looked good.
"Kenn' uh, hey." Paige tried not to stutter but it slipped.
"Hi." Seeing Paige's face this close again sent a sharp pain to Leilani's heart. The last time she saw her like this the girl told her she wanted to breakup.
"How've you be—"
"Look Paige, I don't mean this in a bad way, but I don't really think we have to do this whole small talk thing." She cut her off, slipping past her and out of the elevator."You made yourself very clear last time. Besides I'm meeting up with someone so I should get going. It was good seeing you." Leilani gave her a small smile before walking away and turning the corner in search of KK's dorm room.
Leaving Paige in her thoughts and honestly, a little heartbroken all over again.
