Tip: When I mention a song during this chapter, play it on Spotify. That way you can really get into the story and understand what is happening etc.
(Alexandro's POV)
The bar is way more crowded than the first time we came here. Everyone is shoveling through the crowd, trying to get a spot to sit at. I look around for someone to talk to, but Lucas is already walking towards two girls. I decide to follow him, because I don't have much of a choice. He sits down on a bar stool next to them. Lucas seems to be making his usual moves on one of the girls, speaking in a charming voice like he always does. This wasn't part of the plan...
I feel a sense of jealousy surge through me, but I try not to show it. I thought I was the only one he flirted with. I decide to stay hidden in the crowd. I'll just listen in on their conversation. The girl's friend however, has different plans. She calls me over. "Heyy, handsome." She purrs. It is obvious she is a little tipsy. She moves her purse from a stool, making room for me to sit. She leans in forward and asks me for my name.
I pause for a moment until I hear Lucas giving his name to his girl. I glance over to see him smiling at me. "Make sure to compliment her." He says, pointing at the girl next to me. I am starting to understand what he's doing. He's charming them, so they trust us. That way, we can easily ask them anything. I return my focus on the girl I'm talking to, taking her hand in mine. "My name is Alexandro. What's yours, darling?" Not to sound cocky, but I know how to make someone fall for me. Lucas has seen it himself at my party. I've been surrounded with girls my whole life and these girls are no different.
"I'm Scarlet." She continues to giggle at everything I say. It's clear I've won her over. "Well, Scarlet. How long have you and your friend been Diamond Raiders?" I ask, hoping for an answer that will lead me to some valuable information. She taps her friend's shoulder to ask her when they joined their gang. "We've been a part of the gang for about seven months now." She tells me. Lucas joins in on our conversation. "Lexi and I are new here. Could you tell us who the most important people are?" Scarlet's eyes light up.
"Of course! We have our boss, even though no one knows what he looks like. His orders are told through another person, called Giovanni. You've probably talked to him before. He's the only one who guy who actually sees our boss." Scarlet continues to spill her guts about everything she knows. I'm letting her do the talking, because that's the best way to get information. I didn't expect this to work so well. She even tells us where Giovanni is usually hanging out. Lucas locks eyes with me. A silent way of telling me we should pay him a visit.
"Yes, he's usually hanging out at the alley two blocks from here." Scarlet states, "But only during the night. That's everything I know. I hope I helped you guys." She has no idea how much she has helped us. I thank her for everything, buying some water for her. It seems like she has had enough alcohol for tonight. I am about to ask Lucas if we can go, when suddenly everyone goes silent. There is a man standing in the centre, holding a microphone. "It's Friday night again, which means... KARAOKE NIGHT!" The whole bar bursts out into sudden cheers.
I already know Lucas is going to ask me to sing with him by the way he smirks. I've never actually done karaoke, so this might be an interesting experience. The first singer comes up on their little stage, made of a few big boxes. The television which used to display a soccer game, is now showing song lyrics. The first performer on stage is so bad, it's embarrassing. It's almost painful to listen to them. Everyone in the bar laughs as they hear the way this poor soul is trying to hit the notes. "We can definitely do better than that. Wait, I have the perfect song for us."
Lucas grabs his phone to show me something on Spotify. I'm curious to know what he thinks is fitting for us. The song is called Partners In Crime. I have to admit, the title sounds like us. We are basically teaming up to take on these criminals together. "But I don't know the lyrics." I admit. He brings his phone close to my ear and I have to cover my other ear to actually hear the song. I try to memorize the lyrics, while listening to Lucas talk. "The chorus is very easy. I'll just sing the verse and when the chorus comes up, we sing together!"
I'm not the type to do something spontaneous, but his enthusiasm is contagious. We can't be worse than the last performance, right? "Let's do it." I say as I lead him to the stage. We tell the leader of the bar our song. We have to wait until the last person is done singing. I try to suppress my nervousness, while looking around at the amount of people in the bar. I realize I have no idea when the chorus starts and I quickly turn to Lucas to ask him. "Don't worry. I'll give you a signal, like a wink, every time the chorus comes up. Look! It's our turn."
I take a deep breath and we walk up the little stage. It's just wide enough for the two of us. As the music begins, Lucas winks at me. The lyrics is in fact quite easy to memorize. Lucas is really making a show, making movements that symbolize certain words. I feel like a background singer, but as the song continues I get more comfortable. Everyone is cheering for us and it feels amazing. Lucas is constantly maintaining eye contact with me, whenever he sings a verse. I smile at him, just as he gives me another wink.
I jump in on the last chorus and sing loudly, putting all my energy into giving the best performance I can. I'm so caught in the moment that it almost feels as if there is no one else in the room except for us two. When the song finally finishes, the crowd applauds loudly, excited by our duet performance. We step off stage, and Lucas pulls me into his arms, hugging me tightly. "THAT WAS FUCKING AWSOME!" He yells.
It's a lovely moment, the kind that makes your heart pound. We stare at each other in this intimate embrace, when Lucas suddenly leans in to kiss me. I'm surprised by his sudden move and he immediately pulls back. "I'm so sorry. I wasn't thi-" I cut him off by kissing him back. The feel of his lips against mine is electrifying. I don't think I've ever felt more alive than this. His hands wrap around my neck, pulling me even closer. I have to wonder if this is real, but I don't want to think anymore. I just want to enjoy that strange feeling in my stomach.
After several moments of kissing, we finally pull apart. "I can't believe we just did that..." I whisper. A million different thoughts start running through my head. It was only a month ago that I had hated this man with every bone in my body, and yet here I was, kissing him. "Yeah me too, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't amazing." Lucas chuckles, his breathing a little ragged from the unexpected kissing. He stares deeply into my eyes for a moment, trying to decide what to say next. He then checks his phone.
"Fuck, I totally forgot about the time. Can you come back tomorrow, so we can talk to Giovanni?" I think back about our deal. We agreed that if we worked together today, I'd never hear from him again. Though after everything that happened, I don't care about that deal anymore. "Meet me here at 8 PM. Don't forget to bring a gun, we don't know what he is capable of."
