(Alexandro's POV)
I'm in my car, waiting in front of Lucas' house. He walks out the door with a half-eaten sandwich in his hand. "Rise and shine, motherfucker!" He yells as he jumps in my car. "How can you have this much energy when it's not even 6 in the morning?" "I can't help it, I'm just really excited for our robbery. This will be the dopest shit I've ever done." He chuckles while he takes a big bite from his sandwich. I keep my eyes on the road as I take us towards our first destination, my mind flooded with thoughts.
It seems like Lucas doesn't understand the risks, because he seems to have no worry at all. I know we've planned for every single outcome, but there's always that tiny sliver of uncertainty. Something could always go wrong and if that happens I am going to be in big trouble. "Do you think-" I start to ask him a question, but he cuts me off immediately. "All the time." I roll my eyes at him, knowing that he is being his usual immature self. "No, that's not what I meant. Do you think-" "Yep."
He's really starting to get on my nerves. He looks at me with a satisfied smirk on his face. "Stop interrupting me. I'm trying to ask something serious." I snap at him as my irritation grows. I try to hold back my anger, but it's difficult to do so when he is being so annoying. I take a deep breath to calm myself down. I try to ask the question again, but I can't seem to remember. "Great, now I forgot what I wanted to say." Lucas starts laughing, which only makes me feel worse. I should've known better than to expect a thoughtful conversation with this guy.
I know that he means well. He's just joking around to lighten the mood. Maybe he does it to distract us from the thrill that is yet to come. Sometimes, he's actually kind of endearing in his own way. Although other times, like right now, I just can't handle his lack of seriousness. As we get closer to our destination, the road stops and we have to walk through a forest to get there. I take my backpack from the backseat and step out of the car. We pass through the trees, heading deeper into the woods.
I can feel the tension filling me again and I start to become more aware of our surroundings. There is nothing but the sound of the dead leaves being crushed under our feet. "Hm, it's supposed to be right here, but I don't see any building." I note while I look around. "That little bitch tricked us!" Lucas' eyes narrow, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
"I don't think he tricked us." I reply, my instincts telling me that we're not seeing the full picture. I point at the ground, where there are signs of a hatch buried below the ground. I can see the handle of it sticking out, but it's been carefully covered with leaves and sticks, so it doesn't attract too much attention. I pull the handle, only for it to reveal a ladder that leads down to a hall under the ground. I see a camera close to the ladder. I grab a sticky note from my backpack, so I can block the camera's view. My footsteps echo down the ladder.
After a few moments, Lucas joins me at the base of the ladder. We are at the front of a long hall. The hall is filled with moving lasers. I wonder how difficult it'll be to bypass these defenses. If we touch one of these lasers, there's a big chance the Diamond Raiders will be notified that someone's in their storage place. Standing at the end of the corridor is a heavy metal door. The diamonds must be behind that door.
Lucas is lucky that I've been trained on how to move through a parcour like that. I begin to work out the best route in my head, but Lucas is already moving towards the lasers. I stop him just in time, grabbing his arm. A laser moves just in front of him, almost touching his nose. "Wait here. I'll go first." I say. I go through the lasers, threading my way carefully through the dangerous array. I watch each laser as it moves, tracking its movements to ensure I don't accidentally hit it. Every move I make is slow and precise. It's a tense process, but I manage to make it to the other side without any incident.
I see a red switch with the text: lasers above it. I flip it and the lasers stop moving. I warn Lucas to be careful. He starts making his way to me. Even though it is way safer now, Lucas is still struggling not to touch anything. I let out a sigh of relief when he finally makes it to the other side. I grab a crowbar out of my backpack. I use the crowbar to prie the metal door open. The door swings open with a faint creak, revealing the storage space beyond. I carefully peek into the space, looking for any signs of danger. I cover another camera before we walk in.
The dim lighting coming from inside reveals a small room. There are at least fifty diamonds that are locked away in glass cases. The diamonds range in sizes from small to very large. It almost feels like a dream to see such a large collection laid out in front of us. I walk towards the first glass case to open it with my lock picker. I manage to open the glass case easily with my lock-picking skills, and the glass case slides open. The diamonds inside glisten in the dim light. I grin, a rush of adrenaline coursing through me. I open my backpack to carefully place the diamonds in. When I look at Lucas for help, I see him grabbing two spray cans out of his own backpack.
"Let's leave a message for the Diamond Raiders." He smirks as he throws one of the spray cans at me. I catch it mid-air, realizing that he wants me to start spraying. I can't deny that I like his idea. A smile spreads across my face as he writes L bozo on the wall. I turn to a different wall to write my own message. I spray the words Don't fuck with us. Within no time the walls are completely covered with all kinds of taunts. I catch a glimpse of Lucas' writing, and see that the next message he writes says "I fell in love with an idiot." I roll my eyes and laugh, even though I know I'm the idiot being referred to.
I take a step back to admire our work. We've really shown the Diamond Raiders who's boss. We return to loading our backpacks with diamonds. When our backpacks are full, we zip them up and start to make our way back towards the ladder. We hurry to leave the scene as quickly as possible, because we've wasted a lot of time with the graffiti. Our next destination is my middleman, who will sell the diamonds on a pawn shop. "Once I receive the money, we'll split it." Lucas nods in agreement.
My guy is waiting for us in the alley nearby, leaning against the wall. He gives us a nod as we approach, checking out the goods. "You got the stuff?" he asks, keeping his voice low. I unzip my bag to show him the diamonds. He looks impressed, already thinking about how much he can make selling them. "Nice work," he says, taking the bags. "I'll have no trouble moving these." I glance at Lucas, feeling satisfied. Yeah, it was risky, but the payoff's gonna be sweet. While we wait for our cash, we are going to rob one more place. Once that's done, the Diamond Raiders are going to be remembered as nothing but a joke.
