(Lucas' POV)
I wake up with a stinging feeling in my leg. I look down to see a bloody bandage. I am in shock for a second, until yesterday slowly comes back to me. I remember the fight. I remember Alexandro helping me, but how did he take me here? After I got in his car, my mind went blank. This means he probably knows my address. I call Ben to give me breakfast. I need to rest if I want to meet up with Spriha tonight.
I stay inside the whole day. I took a quick nap in the afternoon. Once again, I wake up. My leg is feeling much better. I check the clock. It's time for dinner. I go downstairs to check our fridge. It is only filled with drinks and a birthday cake that was supposed to be in the trash. I guess that calls for take-out. I look for something to eat online. "Ben, do you want Chinese take-out?" I yell, because he is gaming upstairs. "Say less!" He responds. I order some fried rice and chicken for us.
Not much later, the food arrives. We sit on the couch with the television on. Not a word is spoken as we both tuck into our food. The only sounds are the crinkly container and the clunking of chopsticks against porcelain plates. I swallow my bite of the sweet-and-sour chicken, savoring the tangy flavor of the sauce. Once we've both finished our meal, we clear the table of the dishes and return to the couch. I watch as my roommate sits down and picks up the remote. The television clicks on, its familiar blue lights illuminating the dark room.
He starts watching a football game. I want to watch it too, but the bell rings. "It's my friend. I have to go." I say. I walk outside to see Spriha waiting for me. "Are you ready?" She asks, holding a key car in her hand. I nod. She opens her car door for me. "The plan is to meet up with our supplier. We take the weapons, we drive to our storage. We drop the stuff and go home again." Spriha explains while we drive. She then turns her face towards me, scanning my face. "So, you are the boy who broke Alexandro's heart?" "What?" I have no idea what she is talking about.
"My friend told me her cousin, who is in the Emerald Empire, saw that since you left, Alexandro has been super grumpy. No one dares to talk to him anymore, because of his bad mood. She thinks he has a crush on you, probably disappointed you left." I start laughing. "Are you for real? This is the wildest rumor I've ever heard about me!" If Alexandro has a crush on me, then I am president of the United States. He told me himself that he hates me. "I also didn't believe it, but honestly you should visit him after we're done. You have to flirt to see how he'll react."
I roll my eyes at the attempt of her trying to set me up. However, despite the fact that I know all of her words are bullshit, I can't help but feel a slight tinge of curiosity. What if she was being truthful? What if Alexandro does have a crush on me? Spriha pulls up to a run-down warehouse that is in the middle of nowhere. She gets out of the car and motions for me to follow her inside. When Spriha comes in, she gives a few nods to the men in the place, who all look like they are members of violent gangs of some kind. I take in the scene before me. We make our way to the man's office, which is the back corner of the room, where he is sitting behind his desk.
It is a large man with tattoos all over his body. The man looks up from his computer screen and he seems friendly enough, despite his massive size. "Ah, Spriha. Good to see you again. I take it you've got a bigger order for me since you brought a friend?" Spriha nods and then introduces me. "His name is Lucas. We will be working together for a few months. Where is the supply?" He lifts up a large tarp to reveal a collection of weapons. Spriha hands him a bundle of cash. He counts out the dollars meticulously. After that, he hands us a few boxes of weapons.
The boxes are heavy, but Spriha doesn't struggle one bit. We walk out of the building together, a few guys eyeing on us. As we walk towards her car, I make a mental note of everything that has happened so far. It's all a bit surreal for me. I can't believe that I am here, in this place, hanging out with such dangerous people. We put the supply in the trunk. I think about visiting Alexandro. You know what? Fuck it. I ask her if I need to drive with her to the storage room. She tells she can handle it herself if I promise to tell her all the details after. I learned Alexandro's schedule when I had to spy on the Emerald Empire. If he didn't change his routine, he should be dealing shit on the streets right now.
I start walking to his usual street. It isn't far from this place, because they are both at the end of the city. A place where no one comes. I feel a hint of excitement. I want to know if the rumor is true. As I make a right turn into the street, I can see a familiar silhouette of a tall man a few streetlights away. I move closer in silence, making sure he doesn't notice me. I sneak up on him. I can see that he is currently dealing with another person. He is handing something to an old guy. I am only one inch from Alexandro's shoulder. Just as I am about to scare him, he notices me.
Alexandro immediately pins me against the wall, keeping a loaded gun pointed at my head. There is almost no distance between us. He has a cold look on his face. I feel a wave of fear wash over me. As soon as he realizes it's me, his grip loosens. "Jesus, don't scare me like that. I thought you were.. You shouldn't be here." He says in a low voice. "Woah- a gun? Are you flirting with me, Lexi?" I raise my eyebrow playfully. I try to laugh away the fact he could've killed me.
He stares intently at me, before lowering his gun. He doesn't seem amused by my comment. "Do you know how dangerous this was?" He asks. I know he doesn't need the answer, because we both know it. He holds the gun in the same casual way he would hold flowers. "What, you don't like me sneaking in your territory?" I smirk. I know he's going to find the reply stupid, but I can't help myself. I want to see him get angry at me. The guy who Alexandro was dealing with comes up to us. "Alexandro, I didn't know you had a friend! I thought you hated everyone."
"Everyone except me, right?" I smile proudly. Alexandro frowns at me. "Especially you." He responds. I laugh slightly, amused by him. I love the way he is constantly fighting with me. That is one thing that is so intriguing about him, it is almost as if he can't help it to speak his mind. While he is known to be so quiet. Though, I guess his comment makes it clear he doesn't have a crush on me. A small part of me wishes he did. It would be quite funny.
The other man looks at us both, confused and amused. "You guys look like you have some unfinished business. I'm gonna head back, but call me when you're done." Alexandro calls out to the man. He is telling him to wait, but the guy is already gone. "Great. You scared away a client." He says sarcastically. I try not to giggle at his comment. He is so quick with his replies. "I'm sorry, Lexi." I reply with the same sarcastic tone.
"Apology accepted. Are you going to the Big Meet Up next week?" The what? "Every five years all important gangs from America have dinner together. You need to e-mail your boss if you want to go." I am surprised by this dinner. It seems like the gangs would want nothing to do with each other because they all have different goals. It sounds fun, though. I love food, maybe I will see Rosaline again. I grab my phone to e-mail my boss. My e-mail to my boss is straight to the point. All I have to say is that I would love to go to the "Big Meet Up". That I would appreciate an invite. I don't get a response immediately, but I doubt it will be long coming. I put my phone in my pocket and look at Alexandro.
"Are you going to the big meet up? I have a feeling that is probably not an event you want to miss." He nods. "My father makes me go to every event with him." I can tell that he is not looking forward to the dinner at all. I can't imagine having to follow around my dad everywhere we go. I wonder what Alexandro's father is like. It seems like his entire family is somehow involved in a gang. I guess it makes sense, but it also sounds like a pretty chaotic way of living. My phone buzzes. My boss has replied on my e-mail. I smirk at Lexi. "Luckily, I will be there too to keep you entertained." He chuckles. "I am sure that I can find someone more enjoyable to keep me entertained. See you next week."
