"Try to eat a little, monkey." Meredith tried to make Charlotte eat when her phone started ringing
"Hey Mer, what's up?" He asked
"Charlie's admitted, Alex thinks it's the start of pneumonia." Meredith explained. "But she's doing good, she's actually having some jello."
"Daddy!" He heard his daughter's slightly hoarse and tired voice
"Hey monkey, how are you feeling?" Derek asked her
"Yucky!" Charlotte scrunched up her nose
"I will come over as soon as I can, monkey. Daddy and your sisters love you." Derek said
"Luf too!" Charlotte tiredly giggled
"Der, she's okay. Just come over with the girls and then take them home." Meredith said
"Are you sure, Mer? I can stay with Charlie-" Derek offered
"Mommy!" Charlotte started whimpering
"Think it's best if I stay here." Meredith nodded
"Okay, we'll be there in a few hours. Charlie, make sure to sleep, okay?"
"Kay daddy.." Charlotte muttered
"Bye Derek, tell Emma and Grace that I love them." Meredith said and hung up the phone
"Mama, I tiwred." Charlotte muttered
"I'll tuck you in, take a nap sweetie." Meredith whispered softly and did her best to tuck in her daughter, the hospital bed wasn't the easiest to reach from the wheelchair
Meredith smiled softly as she watched how Charlotte slowly fell asleep, she was glad her daughter was doing a little better. She quickly checked the girl's IV to make sure the antibiotics were running
She felt her back aching but she was hesitant to get on the couch in the corner of the room. She wanted to be close in case Charlotte would need her
"Hey-" Derek knocked on the door
"Hey, wait-" Meredith wheeled out of the room into the hallway. "Hey girls!" She hugged her oldest daughters, leaving the door slightly open so she'd hear Charlotte calling out for her
"I'll go check on her really quick." Derek said as he obviously worried about his daughter
"Mommy, Can we see Charlotte?" Grace asked
"Of course, but be a little quiet, she's really tired." Meredith explained to her daughters but headed inside
"I'll ask someone to get a bed in here for you." Derek frowned and looked at his wife
"Alex said he'd get someone to bring a bed but there was an emergency, I'll be fine." She quietly told him, rubbing his back
"Mer, you're not sleeping on a couch, I don't want you to end up in the hospital as well." Derek muttered
"They'll bring a bed once it's calmer." Meredith assured him, leaning forward to kiss him when her legs started bumping up and down
"I can stay here-" Derek said, trying to stop Meredith's legs
"Of course you can, but I'm staying tonight, you will take the girls bowling tonight or something. Just have fun with them, please." Meredith asked
"Okay. But please take care, I'm worried." Derek stroke her cheek softly
"I will." Meredith nodded and kissed his lips. "Take them home, please."
"I'll ask Mark or Addie to bring over some food for you, I want you and Charlie to have a decent meal." He told her
"They are busy, Derek.." Meredith sighed
"Then I'll stop by or I'll ask mom and dad-" Derek said. "I also need to being your braces and your pajamas-"
"Derek, it's gonna be okay. Just please take good care of the girls, make sure they have an amazing night, please." Meredith asked and then wheeled over to the girls to ask about their day while Derek was doubting to leave his wife here but he knew how attached Charlotte was to her, especially when she was sick
"Mer, I really think-" Derek turned around
"Stop, please!" Meredith almost snapped, causing her daughters to flinch
"Mommy-" Emma reached for her mom's hand
"Sorry, I know." Derek nodded, feeling horrible for doing this
"I'll call mom and dad, ask if they can grab my stuff and bring it here while you grab dinner with the girls and afterwards you have ice cream on the couch while watching a movie." Meredith instructed, hugging her two older daughters
"Can we call you for a night night?" Grace asked
"Of course! I expect a call, maybe even a video call, what do you think?" Meredith smiled softly at them
"Yes!" Emma and Grace agreed
"Go, it will be okay. I'll call dad right now." Meredith said, slightly annoyed with her husband's hoovering, she had spend 14 years in a wheelchair so she hated that her husband was terrified about everything she did lately, even if she was indeed worried as well about her own body, over the years she had suffered more than needed, sadly because the break back then was so bad that the doctors had to experiment with her treatment
"I love you, and I'm really sorry. I'll make sure mom brings everything." Derek kissed Meredith's lips
"I know.. I love you too." Meredith kissed him back and waved as he left with their two oldest daughters, then she went to the couch, calling Christopher
After about an hour they arrived
"Hey hey-" They knocked softly on the door
"Oh!" Meredith pushed herself up, her left leg shaking again
"Oh monkey-" Carolyn walked up to Charlotte who was asleep again
"We brought some dinner for you as well, let us install it." Christopher smiled widely, trying to ignore Meredith's spasming leg
"You're really the best!" Meredith smiled and got up in her wheelchair
"How is she feeling?" Carolyn asked Meredith
"Her fever dropped, luckily she feels a little better but she's just really, really tired."
"Here, sweetie. We got you a burger from Joe's." Christopher winked
"Oh dad!" Meredith's eyes widen
"You will never change!" Christopher chuckled and kissed the top of Meredith's head
