"No I swear, we've been wanting to paint for so long now but we keep postponing it." Meredith told Addison as they were chatting away on the outdoor lounge
"Mark keeps promising we'll look into a new dishwasher but he never makes time." Addison rolled her eyes
"As if you even use it?" Meredith laughed
"Shut up." The redhead laughed
"Mama, can you help with the sandcastles?" Charlotte ran up to her mother
"Oh monkey you should ask uncle Mark, he's an expert!" Meredith smiled since she wouldn't be able to help
"Otay!" Charlotte ran off
"That sandbox seems to be Charlie and Eliza's favorite toy." Addison chuckled
"Eliza keeps asking to play in it every time she's visiting." Meredith nodded, looking over at her husband and father at the grill
"Would you two like a drink?" Carolyn walked up ti them
"Mom, we can serve ourselves, you should sit down and relax." Meredith said
"Oh hush, tell me what you two want and then I'll join you." She promised
"I'd love some more wine." Addison smiled
"Just some water, please." Meredith nodded and leaned back against the pillows
Meanwhile Derek and Christopher were getting the food ready, they had made a lot and everyone had decided to stay the night at the Shepherd's house so no one would have to think about driving home
The kids were playing all around the garden, often running in and out of the trailer that they had renovated for the kids, they were even able to make it a little accessible for Meredith
"Mommy! Mommy!" Emma ran towards her mother
"What's up, where's the fire?" Meredith laughed
"Look!" Emma jumped next to her mom on the couch, showing her phone. "These are the pictures from last week!"
"Oh show me, you make me curious." Meredith smiled as Addison got up to check on Eliza and Charlotte
"Maybe we should go together once?" Emma smiled as she scrolled through the pictures
"Sounds like a very good idea, princess. I'll keep it in mind." Meredith wrapped her arms around her daughter
"And can we get a dog?" Emma asked
"A dog?" Meredith frowned
"Yes! It would be so much fun to have one!" Emma giggled
"Oh princess, I don't know if we got enough time for a dog? Dad and I are often working and with the three of you at school.." Meredith muttered
"And a service dog?" Emma asked
"Monkey.." Meredith sighed
"Sorry.. I just really would like having a dog." Emma shrugged, hugging back her mom
"I know, I like them too but we really need to think about these things, animals need a lot of love and care." Meredith kissed the side of Emma's head
"I think daddy is about to serve the food." Emma noticed.
"Then I'll have to get up. Can you go get your sisters and your cousins?" Meredith asked, pushing herself up
"Okay, I'm going!" Emma chuckled and ran off
Meredith chuckled as she saw her daughter running off and fixed her legs, making sure she could do a transfer to her wheelchair
"Hey sweetie, can I carry your glass to the table?" Christopher walked up to her, also collecting his own glass
"Yes dad, I'll be there in a minute." Meredith nodded, scooting over to the edge of her seat and got into her wheelchair
"Ah there you are, let's get some dinner." Derek kissed his wife's lips and took a seat next to her, the table starting to fill
Many conversations were held as they had their dinner, most of them were fancying a glass of wine or a beer, the kids even allowed some soda since it had been the perfect evening
"Mama, I tiwed." Charlotte started climbing up onto her mom's wheelchair
"Come here, princess." Meredith opened her arms
"Do you want me to take her?" Derek asked his wife
"No, I finished eating anyway." Meredith assured him, wrapping her arms around Charlotte
"Hmm.. Careful with your knee." She could hear Derek didn't approve but this was her choice, her daughter was tired and just wanted to cuddle
"Daddy, I love these spare ribs!" Grace told her father
"Thanks princess, what about you, Emmie?"
"Very good daddy!" She smiled and continued eating
"We should get the fireplace started!" Mark said
"I'll help with that so it's ready by the time everyone finishes dinner." Christopher offered and got up
"I think we got marshmallows, we can give those to the kids if they'd like." Meredith tells Derek
"Sounds like a good idea." He nodded and finished eating
A little while later they were all sitting at the fireplace
Derek was really glad he had invested in their outdoor furniture
"Lay down, I'll cover you with a blanket." He told Meredith as he saw how tired she was, he had already brought Charlotte to bed earlier
"I won't sleep, just some rest." She muttered and laid down in his lap, her eyes really heavy
"Sure Mer." Derek chuckled as he knew his wife and knew it was most likely she'd fall asleep anyway
"Tired Grey?" Mark teased, receiving a push from Addison.
"Hush Markie." Meredith groaned
"Let her rest and keep your wife warm." Addison chuckled
The others laughed a bit in response and they all enjoyed the time with their family
