"I wanna hold my girls before!" Meredith argued

"Mer, you can't sit up, you can't even be moved. They'll fly you out in just a little." Derek explained to her. Richard had arranged a private chopper to come pick up Meredith and Mark.

Derek wanted to fly with her but Meredith didn't allow it. Emma hated flying and would want at least one of her parents closeby.

"Hey, they're ready, we can go." Mark told her, covering her completely with blankets to keep her warm

"Amy is standby, they'll take you into surgery right away." Christopher told her. "We'll fly out in two hours, then we'll come as soon as possible."

"Don't rush, it will take a long time anyway." Meredith sadly muttered, she knew what could possibly happen. She might die, might lose function in her arms, she was terrified

"We'll come as soon as we land." Derek stated

"Tell the girls I love them." Meredith said, her voice showing that she was on the edge of crying

"I will, they love you too. I love you so much, Meredith." Derek kissed her lips

"Sir, we'll have to take her now." The nurse said and they wheeled Meredith out to the elevator, followed by Mark who was carrying a bag with Meredith and his stuff

Hours later the Shepherds were waiting for news about Meredith. Mark was currently taking a nap as he wanted to stitch up Meredith to make sure the scar wouldn't be too visible

"All is going okay so far, but Amelia's struggling with connecting the spine." Christopher told Carolyn quietly

"I hope it works out." Carolyn sighed sadly. "I promised I'd watch the kids now.."

"I think Addie will wanna watch from the gallery. I told Derek he should get some rest, or at least shower but he doesn't wanna move an inch." Christopher rubbed his wife's shoulder

"Go back to Derek, just call me with updates, please." Carolyn asked and gave her husband a soft kiss on his lips

"I will but take some rest, our girl will be okay."

"She will be." Carolyn softly nodded

"I'm afraid for her arms, Carolyn. I'm so scared." Christopher admitted

"Do you think they'll.. get paralyzed?" She asked

"I don't know. I really don't know." Christopher shook his head and pulled his wife in for a tight hug

Eventually Mark got pulled into surgery to stitch up Meredith

Amelia was tired after the long surgery but she scrubbed out and headed to her brother, wanting to keep him company

"You did an amazing job." Derek told her

"I hope it will be enough." Amelia admitted

"I'm scared this will be too much for her. She's so young still but her body-" He shook his head

"Medicine improves, Derek." Amelia hugged her brother, both of them absolutely exhausted as they watched Mark close her up

"I'll go wait for her, I wanna take her to the ICU." Derek rubbed his hand through his hair

"Do you mind if I find Kai and take some rest?" Amelia asked tiredly

"Go ahead. Thank you so much." He hugged her, really grateful for what she did

Derek waited for her, but he immediately spotted his father, Addison and Alex as they all wanted to know how she was doing

"Are you okay?" Addison asked Mark as he stepped outside the scrubroom, right before Meredith got wheeled out

"Hmm.." He nodded weakly, holding tight onto his wife

"You should rest." Addison told him

"No, I wanna be with Mer." Mark muttered. "I'll take a nap on a chair."

...

Her whole family has been by her side for the entire time. She was absolutely exhausted as she had woken up earlier but fell asleep right after. Luckily they have already extubated her so she was now breathing on her own. It has been almost 18 hours since her surgery

"The girls are begging to see her." Derek muttered as he read his phone. Alex had been watching the kids for the time being

"It's too soon." Christopher shook his head

"Mer?" Derek gasped as he saw her eyes fluttering slightly

"Hmm.." Meredith groaned

"Page Amy, now!" Carolyn instructed

A few minutes later Amelia arrived as Meredith was slowly starting to wake up properly

"Mer, you need to tell me when you can feel my pen." Amelia explained and started checking

"Now." Meredith muttered, it was high on her chest, even higher than before which started raising concerns by the others

"I'll check your arms." Amelia explained and put her pen down

"Now." She nodded weakly

Everyone sighed in relief as they weren't paralyzed

"I'll lift up your arms, try to keep them up, okay?" Amelia smiled softly at her sister in law, starting on her right side but Meredith's arm fell down almost immediately

"Amy?" Derek looked at his sister in fear

"Mer, can you try really hard?" Amelia asked ad tried again but Meredith winced as it didn't work

"Did you touch her spinal cord?" Derek immediately worried

"It's probably the swelling, Derek. Let's take her for scans so we can discuss but I'm sure it's just some swelling.." Amelia muttered, feeling Kai slip behind her to hold her for comfort

"What if it's not?!" He started raising his voice

"D-Der-" Meredith whimpered, seeing her husband freak out which started to scare her. She started trying moving her arms, her shoulders were moving but her arms just felt very heavy

"You had a big surgery, Mer. It's not unusual for your body to be weak afterwards." Christopher stroke his fingers over Meredith's forehead

"Let's take her now." Amelia muttered
