The taller guard, with slicked-back hair and a stoic demeanor, eyes me with suspicion. "Usopp, you say? What business do you have here?" he grumbles, his hand resting casually behind his back in a dominant manner.
The second guard, with a red tie snugly around his neck, squints as he looks at me. "Hold on a moment. Aren't you one of the Marines?" he asks, recognizing the design of my uniform.
Not just any marine, dude. I suppose my visit here is possibly shocking for the people here. I'm not certain if they have a bad history with pirates like in Shells Town.
"My name is Y/N - a Lieutenant Commander. Well, an acquaintance of mine, Usopp was heading this way." I continue while taking a peek past the guards, "Is he inside?"
The guards exchange surprised glances, and the tension in the air seems to shift from suspicion to a mix of respect and uncertainty. The slick-haired guard, now slightly taken aback, grunts and steps aside. "What... that kid sneaked here again!? I mean, wait here, sir," he declares, gesturing toward a sturdy bench near the gate.
I catch a hint of curiosity in his eyes, and I can almost hear his unspoken question: What brings a Marine to this quiet corner of the East Blue?
As I take a seat, the guard with the red tie leans in, his tone more respectful. "Don't worry, Lieutenant Commander. We have nothing to do with Usopp. We'll escort him out forcefully and you can handle the rest." The realization that they have a high-ranking Marine visitor adds an intriguing layer to the atmosphere surrounding the grand estate.
I shoot him a nod, explaining with an awkward smile, "Uh, it's not like that. I was just wondering why he had gone here. He's not going to be arrested."
Hmm... this mansion doesn't seem to be Usopp's house, judging from the guards' words. Why is he here then? He might be on good terms with the owner here. Despite his obvious lies, he has a good heart and an interesting personality. I won't be surprised if Usopp had a lot of friends. There's only one way to find out.
I wait for a bit calmly for the tall guard to return. It has been a few minutes and yet - no sign of the bodyguard. That's odd. Tired of the still atmosphere, I strike up a conversation with the other one: "So, who owns this mansion again?"
The guard with the red tie shifts his gaze, a hint of reluctance in his eyes. "That would be Miss Kaya. She's a kind soul, very generous to the people of this village," he responds, measuring his words carefully.
His expression gradually turns grim. "Our young lady has been rather frail in health ever since her parents passed away."
I nod in acknowledgment, contemplating the possible connection between Usopp and Miss Kaya. Just as the silence becomes almost uncomfortable, the taller guard returns, his expression a mix of anger and relief. "I caught him here, Lieutenant Commander. He's yours."
With him is a struggling young man, one that I fully know of. What did you get yourself into, dude? He attempts to fight against the guard, but to no avail. We all can hear his exclamations clearly: "AH! Let me go!"; "I didn't do anything wrong, sir!", et cetera... Ignoring his cries, the guard grips him firmly and drags him towards me.
Usopp abruptly halts, widening his eyes upon noticing my presence. "It's you again! The marine I encountered earlier today!"
I offer a friendly wave with an innocent smile. "Yes, it's Y/N. I saw you running here, so I couldn't help but dropping by."
"Mind your business, Y/N! I mean, officer!" He points accusatory fingers at my face, claiming that I am intruding.
Is this guy for real? His hurried departure back at the restaurant suggested a sense of urgency or secrecy. Additionally, Usopp's credibility as a truth-teller is questionable.
