When it was getting late, they reluctantly part ways, but they made plans to catch up again in the morning. As McKenna walked back to her room, her mind is racing. She couldn't believe she was back together with Jack, her best friend, and that they had reconnected so easily. It was like they had never been apart. She was giddy with excitement and anticipation, her heart full of love and hope. She knew that no matter what the future held, she would always have Jack by her side, and that thought brought her a sense of comfort and peace.
Mckenna gets back to her suite before midnight, slipping into the suite quietly just in case her family were asleep. She tiptoes towards the bedrooms, stopping at the doorway of her parents' bedroom and peeks in, wanting to check if they were asleep. Her mother was asleep, but her father was still awake. He was seated on the bed, reading a book when he heard footsteps and noticed his daughter near the door.
"Hello, sweetheart. Did you have a nice time exploring the ship?" He asked, a gentle smile on his face.
"I did, I found a library and stayed there for most of the evening." Mckenna answers, a smile forming on her face. Her eyes then lit up as she grins. "And guess what? I ran into Jack Dawson! I couldn't believe it. We had such a nice time catching up. I miss him, dad. It's been so long since I've seen him."
"Jack Dawson, huh? That's quite the surprise. And I know, it's been a while. How's he doing? I hope he's doing well." William inquired, his eyebrows raising. He was a little surprised to hear that, but he was glad to hear they had a nice time catching up. McKenna's relationship with Jack had always been a mystery to him. He didn't know how close they had been, but he knew that they had a deep bond and cared deeply about each other. He was happy for her and glad that she was able to reconnect with her old friend.
"He is. He's been drawing and getting by." Mckenna nods, her smile growing. She was happy to see him again, and she couldn't wait to spend more time with him. "He's also heading to New York too, so I'm excited for that. I'm hoping we'll be able to spend more time together."
"I'm glad he's doing well. You should invite him to join us for dinner tomorrow night." William suggested, a small smile on his face.
"Dinner?" Mckenna asks, her brows raising in surprise. "Really? You'd be okay with that?" She was surprised to hear this since Jack was in Third Class. She had been expecting her father to have a problem with it, but he seemed to be okay with it. She was glad, but a bit curious as to why.
"Sure. Why not?" William chuckles. "He's your best friend, right?" He added, his tone warm and welcoming.
"Yes, but..." Mckenna's voice trails off, her gaze shifting to the ground. "Y-You know, since he's in Third Class..." She stutters, worried for how he would react. "I know how you feel about the lower classes, dad. I didn't think you would want me associating with him."
William's eyes softens, his gaze filled with understanding. He could see the uncertainty and worry in his daughter's eyes, and he knew that she was worried about his reaction. Part of him didn't like the idea of his daughter being around someone in the lower class, but the other part of him knew that it was important for her to have her best friend by her side. "Sweetheart, I know that Jack is a good kid. I mean, yes, he can be a handful at times and yes we're both different classes now, but I'm sure he's still the same Jack we know known since you two were kids. Besides, your mother and I know how important he is to you, and we don't want you to lose that friendship. So if having him join us for dinner will make you happy, then I say go for it."
Mckenna was shocked and touched by her father's words. She was sure that he wouldn't want her to hang out with Jack anymore because of their difference in social class, but to hear him support their friendship meant the world to her. She felt a rush of gratitude and relief wash over her, and she couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, dad," She says softly, her voice filled with emotion. "That means a lot to me." She quickly crossed the room and gave her father a tight hug, feeling overwhelmed with love and appreciation for him.
