Bruce couldn't stop thinking about Vance. The way he didn't seem so angry for once. The way he ran out of the library so quickly, like he was afraid or panicked. Did he say something wrong.

He gets home and is greeted with silence.

"I'm home!" No one replies. He's used to no one really caring about his whereabouts. They were all too focused on themselves.

Bruce sighs before taking his shoes off, dumping his bag on the floor, and running up to Amy's room.

"Hey, Amy?" He stands in her doorway waiting for her to acknowledge him.

She looked up from the book she was reading and closed it dramatically. "What do you want!" She scoffs obviously annoyed.

"Do you know a Griffin Hopper in your school?" Bruce was genuinely curious to know if Vance's brother was anything like him.

"No, but I do know a Griffin stagg." Maybe their step brothers.

"Oh, what's he like?"

"Why do you even care?"

"He's my...friends brother." Bruce hesitates before calling Vance a friend. Were they friends? Or was Bruce getting a head of himself.

"Well, he's nice, and he's quiet." Sounds nothing like Vance.

"Ok, thanks." He leaves and enters his own room.

He wanted to text Vance. Maybe talk to him for a while.

_________________________________________

Vance was trying to be dry. He can't let himself like someone. If he was dry towards him, Bruce would leave him alone, and it would all be easier for Vance.

He leaves his room and cooks some food for Griffin. He didn't make anything for himself as Griffin's needs must be put first over Vance's.

Vance handed him the plate and watched him happily eat all the food. His legs were dangling on the kitchen chair, and he was humming some kids' tv shows theme song. He was so innocent even after everything he's gone through in his ten short years. He didn't deserve this life. His dad didn't deserve him. Vance silently promised himself that once he was old enough and had the money, he would take Griffin far away from here.

Griffin signs a thanks towards Vance. Giving him a big smile and a hug.

"You should go to bed." Vance instructs Griffin, who nods his head and walks towards his own small room.

His step dad was passed out asleep on the sofa. Clutching onto a half drank beer can, which Vance took and finished in almost a second.

Vance wanted more. He wanted to drink until all his thoughts went silent. So that's what he did.

Drink after drink after drink. He knew he would have a hangover tomorrow, but he didn't care. As long as these stupid thoughts about Bruce would stop.

When he lied down the feeling of falling, taking over his body. He closes his eyes but immediately opens them again. When he hears his door click open.

"Vance?"

"Griffin, you should be asleep." Vance slurs out glancing at his digital clock, which reads out 2:05 AM

"I can't sleep."

Vance sighs. "Come here."

Griffin walks to Vance's bed at crawls in. Cuddled up to his big brother. Their soft snores echoed around the whole place.
