CHAPTER NINE
( nothing new )
❝ shut up, min ho ❞
"AND WHEN I WAS at the hospital, look what I found." Kitty held out her phone, showing the screen to Ah-ri and Q. "Adopted by Australian parents. Just like Professor Finnerty. And born around the same time. He could totally be my half-brother.""Okay, what?" Q exclaimed.
"The facts add up!"
"I don't know." Q shook his head, unsure. "This could just be a huge coincidence."
Ah-ri raised a skeptical eyebrow, her mind racing to find a logical explanation. "Kitty, a lot of Korean kids are adopted by Australians. It's normal."
"Okay, but why else would he be at KISS?" the American girl insisted, her eyes gleaming with determination.
Ah-ri shrugged. "He's probably just come back to learn more about his roots."
"Yeah, his family roots. He's probably also looking for answers. Answers we can find together," she had a triumphant look on her face as she gestured towards herself. "As brother and sister."
"I think you might need a little bit more evidence. You're gonna be dropping a lot of information on him." Q said softly. "Including the fact that his birth mother is, well ... not alive."
"Yeah, you may be right." Kitty sighed in defeat, fiddling with the pink baby bracelet in her hand. "But I just get the feeling that my mom kept that bracelet for a reason. I think she wanted to find the baby one day."
Ah-ri couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for Kitty. She knew all too well the longing for answers, the desire to piece together fragments of an unknown past, and the bitter disappointment of finding nothing. Her own family was the same. Ah-ri knew her parents hid secrets from the world, and from her.
