CHAPTER FOUR
MOMENT OF TRUTH
"strange what desire will
make foolish people do"

AVOIDING people she didn't want to talk to had become some sort of a forte of Shivani's as of late.

School was in, and she had yet to speak to Stiles. Though she wanted to know whatever crazy stuff she said or done under the spell of the moon, she also didn't want to know. The first time someone saw her moonstruck had been all those months ago when Stiles knocked on her front door. Fortunately for her, she hadn't done anything too crazy. Stiles had refused to ever inform her of what she had done or said exactly, but he had given her a vague recap. Maybe that was why she was scared. This time felt different. She never knew what she'd done when under the spell. Was she even prepared to unravel the doings of her moonstruck self?

That was the question that had gnawed at her that entire morning.

Dressed in a pair of gym shorts and matching top, Shivani tied her hair into a ponytail. The girl had signed up for cross country. Running wasn't exactly her specialty, but upon realizing just how crazy this town could be, she figured it was worth a shot. That, and her mother used to be a huge cross country girl. She figured doing something her mother could relate to would help smooth things over considering how angry her parents had gotten. Cross country was optional for all students except the ones on the lacrosse team. Shivani hadn't realized that when she signed up, so she was forced to do it alongside Stiles. Just her luck.

Shivani begrudgingly exited the locker room as she headed in the direction of the rest of the participants. Before gaining a tail, Shivani used to adore running. The feeling of pumping one leg down after another was absolutely exhilarating, and with the tumultuous thoughts swirling in her mind, something to distract her with sounded fitting. But everything drastically changed when she became a mermaid, and things she once loved steadily began fading away.

The frazzled girl began jogging the second Coach blew into his obnoxiously loud whistle. If she was fast enough, maybe she'd be able to quite literally run away from the Stilinski boy.

Her plan to mind her business while running was beautifully spoiled when Scott grabbed ahold of her shoulder. "I think we're going to need your help." Was all the McCall boy spluttered before taking the lead. A knowing scoff fell from her lips, but she nontheless trailed behind him as he went off route. Following after him led her to the pair of twins restraining Isaac.

"Ethan, I always forget. How many bones are the in the human body?" The guy that had approached Shivani at the party spoke, holding the Lahey boy down. They had yet to notice Scott and Shivani approaching. Isaac was restrained in a chokehold.
