Asalam mu alaykum everyone. This is my second book. I didn't really want to write another as am such a bad writer but.... practice makes perfect right. So am gonna try writing an Islamic one this time. Give me some tips. Ur support means a lot to me. So let's begin!!!!Oh and ramazan mubarak all.
Asalam mu alaykum! My names Salsabeel Kausar. I know I know. It's a bit strange but my wonderful mother thought it would be amazing to name me after the two rivers of heaven. And where is that wonderful mother of mine? Ahh.... there she is, in the garden with my father enjoying this rare opportunity of Sunshine. It's such a nice summer evening. Much better then typical British weather we've been having for the past few days. Unfortunately I'm not with them at the moment.
Where am I you ask???? Am laid outstretched on my king sized bed with my legs dangling staring at the white celling, bored out of my mind is where I am.
I'd love to sit in the sunshine with my parents but my eczema and hay fever are real problem. Al ham du lillah mine isn't as bad as others. It's mild. But a problem is still a problem, no matter how big or small.
"Am home!!!"
That's my 10 year old sister Attiya. Shes very loud and about to get a lecture from Saif biya. He's my older brother by three years. Welcome to my sweet little family.
I get up from bed and drape my scarf loosely around my head . I open my bedroom door and see Saif biya running down the stairs and I follow him.
As we walk in to the living room we see Attiya slouched on the settee, her navy blue scarf covering her eyes and her school bag next to her.
"Attiya how many times have I told you not to shout?" Saif biya said calmly. "A woman should hide her voice from Na Mehram men. You came in shouting 'am home'. Many men could have heard you. Remember every man that hears your voice you get sin for it."
"Well..... My voice is loud" she huffed.
I tried not to smile at this and became fascinated with my scarf.
"You can learn to talk calmly. Try to match your tone with mine. Am not shouting but still everyone in this room can hear me"
Attiya smiled widely at this and I knew she just thought of something stupid.
"Why are you smiling? I didn't crack a joke. That's rude. "
"Yes but I thought of one. When you said 'everyone in this room' I remembered a brainteaser I read on the Internet. "
Saif biya rubbed his long face.
"What was the brainteaser?" I asked.
Attiya turned her body to me and sat up straight, excited.
"Ok-"
"Am trying to explain something to you and you're slouching, Salsabeel asked what the brainteaser is and you sit up properly? What's this?" Saif biya says smirking waving his arms around.
"Saif biya" Attiya whines" interrupting is rude" she said completing his favourite line.
"Anyway, a mother a daughter and a sister are standing over a grave a man comes and asks whose grave is this everyone there says my father. How is that possible? "
"There Christians and who died was there priest" I say.
They both look at me as if I've grown a head.
"Ooh" they both say once they realise what I meant.
"But no"
I look at the time its 4:30. "it 4:30 sweetie you're getting late for Maddrasah.tell us the answer then go do wudu and pray Zohar."
"No you have to guess"
I give her my famous glare and she caves "ok ok sheeesh. The answer is there's only one woman there. She's someone's mother someone's daughter and someone's sister. "
It took a while for me to understand and I smiled. "clever ....now go"
Attiya stood up and opened the living room door and went up the stairs. I open the door to the kitchen which is next to the door to the stairs and stand by the kitchen door looking at my parents enjoying the weather. I feel a presence behind me and see its Saif biya.
"What's wrong" I ask "as do you want to go out"
Erm.....sure." He says.
I give him space to walks out and he sits next to my parents.
"Salsabeel has Attiya came back yet "mum asks when she sees me.
"Jee ami she's getting ready for madrassah."
Then I slow count backwards from 5.
"5...... 4........3.........2........"
"Salsabeel behna" Attiya shouts down the stairs.
Right on time.
"I can't find my Madrasah bag"
Smiling I open the door to the stairs and see her wearing her black jubbah (aka abbaya) and pining her black scarf.
"Yesterday your jubbah today your bag" I say shaking my head "it's in your top draw."
Without thinking me, she rushes to her room. I turn and walk back to the kitchen getting my Quran from the draw and then make my way to my bedroom. I see Attiya on the way.
"Khuda hafiz " she says.
"Khuda hafiz "I reply.
I open the door to my room, close it behind me, and sit crossed legged facing the kiblah on my bed. A tinge of guilt hits my heart as I read out loud. I only read the Quran in ramadhan and I know I should read it more often so I make an intention to read more often after Eid in sha Allah.
As I finish reading the amount I want I close the Quran and walk down to the kitchen to put it away. Mum and dad have come inside now and are sitting in the living room. I may be 20 but the sakoon I get, the peace I feel, when I put my head in my mother's lap is unexplainable.
"What's wrong?" mum asks as she pats my head.
" I have a headache" I say.
" go to sleep. Youll feel better. "
" I can't. Its Asr. Makrooh to sleep in between Asr and Maghrib. It's Sunna to sleep in between Zohar and Asr but makrooh to sleep in between Asr and Maghrib. "
Mum looks at the clock and turns to Saif biya" Saif, my son, go pick Attiya from Madrasah. "
"Is it time already?!" He asks looking at the clock "that was fast."
"Sign of Qiyaamah. Time will go faster." I say.
"Saif go pick up."
"She can come home from school herself but I have to pick her up from Madrasah? The Madrasah is closer than the school."
"Yes but other parents go to pick their children from this street so I know she's safe. Parents don't go to pick their children as a group of children go together from each house. Attiya is the only one who goes from here. "
"I used to come back by myself"
"You're a boy"
"That's sexist"
"Shut up you idiot" dad shouted "today's youngsters have no shame"
And that's why I say gender - EST.
There was a knock at the door and Saif biya went to answer it. I could het khala Samaria and khala Beenish our neighbours, voices but didn't hear what they were saying.
Saif biya came back into the living room, his eyes red, and face pale.
"What's wrong " I asked.
"Attiya had an accident"
And that's the end of the first chapter. Tell me what you thought. When is sehri and iftari where you live? Here in Dewsbury England sehri is at 2:00 and iftari at 9: 44. Read comment and vote. ;-D. Until next week. Khuda hafiz.
