chapter 13: final battle part 2

Shinobu just watched the demon come towards her, twirling her blood soaked blade around while grinning at her.

"My dear, dear shinobu-san~ he will die soon if you don't do something about his wound. However, its pointless since the poison on the blade i ran him through is fatal and acts quickly~" tsuta gave an amused look as she noticed shinobu has stopped listening to her and has gone back to fussing over giyu once more.

"Tomioka-san please wake up." She tried to call him once more. But it seems tsuta is correct with her words since the purple mark has spread to his chest and arms and it hadn't been long from when he got stabbed. If only she could analyse the poison's composition to make an antidote..... this poison seems complex shinobu could tell.

"Calling to him again now are we?" The demon cocked her head. "You humans are so emotional i really don't understand. You try to do the impossible just because you believe you can make it happen. What a farce."

Shinobu didn't answer her. Why should she listen to the ramblings of a demon.

"You know my dear shinobu-san, i thought you would be different since you and i are so similar in that we use poison's and are women of science...." tsuta pointed her blade at shinobu. "But i guess i was wrong~ you're just like every human i come across, governed by disgusting human emotions. I should have put you out of your misery sooner like tomioka-san~ luckily stupid humans like you are my absolute favourite to torture and kill." She smiled.

The insect pillar slowly stood up, hair covering her eyes so she couldn't see her expression and turned around to face this demon. Pure unadulterated rage is coursing through her veins right now. She needs an outlet for this emotion but then tsuta said something that made shinobu's mind go completely blank.

"I know you want to know why i targeted your beloved and precious tomioka-san~ its because i can clearly tell that you're so in love with him~ so i wondered what would happen if i poisoned him and brought him to the verge of death..... and the results are even better than i had hoped~ maybe i should have killed him, then you will have no choice but to join me~ well, he's already reaching death's door already." tsuta mused.

All shinobu see's and hear's is static. Just pure white noise and the demon's words in a loop: "in love with him". Its like she got hit with ice cold water and lightning at the same time. 'Me, in love with tomioka-san, preposterous.' She thought incredulously. But deep down in her mind it feels like she had attained peace, like something just clicked in place in her thoughts. Its honestly amazing at how the mind works, because for some reason she can now vividly remember all the times she and giyu had spent together.

"Hey tomioka-san~ you know that you are disliked by people since you don't even smile~ try to smile more!!"

"....i am not disliked kocho."

"Tomioka-san!! Hello."

"Hmm."

"Seems we are together again for this mission~"

"Yeah."

"My how did you get this injury? I didn't know tomioka-san had hobbies outside of the corps~"

"It was an accident....i was cooking."

"Pfft~"

Seeing all the moments with this new lens from her epiphany is frightening, but also makes her feel happy. A sense of calm has washed over her by realising this. But she can't unpack this right now, she still needs to kill this demon in front of her and she now has more of an incentive to inflict as much pain to tsuta as possible.
