Part of experiencing the full journey that is her last year of school is going to parties. The major ones, at least. And as it so happens, there is a big Halloween celebration right in their common room.
Sure, she could have used the total of two hours it took to get ready to soak in a bit more of Herbology. Or charms. Or Transfiguration.
But she can sacrifice four or so more hours. And she looks bomb, feels bomb in her dark angel ensemble. There is make-up not just on her eyes, but also made to look like it's dripping down her eyes, thanks to Mandy's secret super power of wielding a brush.
Will it take an hour minimum to take off later? Devyn doesn't want to think about it. But what does it matter? In the grand scheme of things?
The first thing Devyn's eyes land on in the heavily decorated common room is Isobel. In costume of an angel. The holy, ordinary kind. Her wings and halo are enchanted just like Devyn's.
Costume repetitions are a risk at halloween but this little opposite number suits Devyn just right. She didn't mean to form any animosity this year, but the way Isobel is chatting up Malfoy right now, chest full and pushed up seductively by a corset, well... the feeling sprouts on it's own.
Although, Devyn's ego is being stroked the second steely eyes shift to her, and melt. Hot, burning molten silver as they make a slow, savoring travel down her body, her midrif exposed, belly piercing glinting in the colorful, moving lights charmed above their heads.
Malfoy himself is in a clean version of his Quidditch uniform, having showered since the game. The whole team took that approach, and when any other year, it would have deserved label lazy, they very well have earned milking their win.
And regrettably, he looks so good in it, it's unfair.
With a hair flick, Devyn dismisses him, because he is afterall standing with Isobel and if that is how he chooses to spend his time, she won't be part of it.
To her right, Mandy snarls. "Look at him." Her gaze is fixed on Zacharias, arms crossed tightly over her chest. "First he chooses to sit with the Hufflepuffs and now he's here, celebrating like he didn't wish they'd loose."
The music is loud enough to drone out the shouting that is happening in the middle of the common room with Michael and Anthony, Susan, Wayne—most of the team. And Zacharias, indeed.
"Because he's bitter," Devyn drones, linking arms so they can weave through the mass and... mingle. That's what you do, right? This is not a big party by any means, and only sixteen and older are allowed, which are mostly friends of their classmates. "But now he has a shot at getting the position."
"Well, I don't support turncoats," she states firmly. "Why do I have to be paired with him? Me!" She gestures at herself, exasperated. "Of all people!"
"You have my condolences, every day of the week." Though, somedays Devyn can't tell who is better to be forced to spend your time with—Malfoy or Zacharias.
Mandy sighs deeply, expression thoughtful. "He started to become this calmer version when we're alone. Civil. So... at least there's that."
"He shouldn't behave differently when you're alone than when you're with other people—well, actually, he can be, but it depends on what versions we're talking about."
Mandy sighs again, tired this time. "I could use a cute boyfriend, Devy."
Don't we all...
Sue cuts into their way out of nowhere, her worrisome eyes blowing wide to see a pair of familiar faces. "Have you seen Megan at all?"
