Chapter 11

It's the day of the challenge, Harry and I were pulled out of out classes and pulled down to the arena to prepare. I have no clue what to do for my dragon but I know ill get through it. I always do.

**

Soon enough the arena was filled with students and teachers, you could tell Harry was nervous even though he tried to hide it. He was currently talking through the tent to Hermione, when she threw the flap aside and attacked harry in a hug. I chuckled but it fell short when a camera flashed.

I glared a skeeter, she had written an article about me when I stood up to the death eaters. "ah young love" she exclaimed to harry and Hermione.

"you have no business here" I spat at here and Viktor came up behind me "this tent is for chapions, and friends." He told her much more calm than me, but still hostile.

"no matter, I've got what I need." She said and turned to leave. Then Dumbledore, Barty Crouch, Karkaroff and Maxine came in, and we all crouded around them.

Barty pulled out a velvet pouch and told us to pick one, Flure went first. Putting her hand in she pulled out a miniature live version of a common green welsh dragon.

Viktor went next and pulled out a Chinese firebolt.

Cedric went after him and pulled out a Swedish short shout.

I went next and I put my hand it, getting singed by the fire from the last two dragons. I pulled out the Hungarian horntail, and I saw all the other champions eyes widen at the miniature dragon.

Harry went last and pulled out the last one, a norweigian ridgeback.

Cedric went first, then flure went, Viktor went third, and now harry was out there facing his. I was sitting there waiting for the cannon to go so that I could face my dragon.

I was told that the Horntail was one of the most tepermental and dangerous dragons documented. I was slightly nervous, but I also knew (thanks to ron) that after Charlie, who had helped bring the dragons over from Romania, heard that I was competing and I was facing the Horntail. He had specifically requested being the watcher for this one, so he could make sure I was ok.

I was grateful because he knew how much I could take, because I had gone out to help him for part of a summer when I was 13. And he would help me if I needed it. So I was slightly comforted by that.

The cannon firing knocked me out of my thoughts and I stood up and walked to the entrance. Looking around the arena I scouted out exactly where the golden egg was and the different ways I could get to it.

Stepping out hesitantly, because so far I couldn't see the dragon anywhere. I kept my eye out for her as I made my way to the nest.

So when she swung her tail at me, I saw it and ducked just in time. She roared angry that I didn't get him. I used my want to make her tail weigh more than it already did so she couldn't lift it temporarily.

I've always hated hurting animals or creatures. So I wasn't going to hurt this one, I was going to use some of the 'charm' that Charlie said that I had with dragons.

I used my wand to make me float so I was eye level with her, but careful to be higher than her mouth so she couldn't turn me to ash.

I know a dragons skin was neigh impenetrable, so it didn't hurt her when I stepped on her snout.

I put my wand in my boot on the inside of my leg and held my hands up to show her I didn't mean any harm.

Dragons are incredibly smart, so when I did this she understood and I could see the tension leave her shoulders slightly. I got up to the top of her head so that I could talk to her without shouting.

I stroked her head, "look at your nest love," I whispered soothingly. "one of those eggs are not yours." I told her and she nodded her head slightly. And I could feel the vibrations as a growl rumbled in her chest. "shhh love its ok, someone put it there for me to get. It's the golden egg, I don't want any of yours love. Just the one meant for me." I told her and she lowered her head down to the ground.

I jumped down and walked slowly over to the nest. I reached down a plucked the golden one from the ground before turning and letting her sniff it. She took a long breath in and sneezed when the unfamiliar scent invaded her nose. She nodded her head slightly telling me it was ok for me to take.

I smiled before setting it down and pulling my wand out and fixing her tail. She brought it around so it wrapped around me and lifted me up so I was eye level with her again. It was like I could see into her soul, she was grateful. No one of my 'kind' had ever treated her with such kindness before. She now considered me a friend, and would protect me as long as she lived.

I pet her on her snout and she flicked her tongue out and licked the side of my face. I groaned and I could hear a familiar chuckle from the teachers stand.

She set me down and I picked my egg up before smiling at her and going back to the tent.
