"Please don't die..." she whispered under her breath as she watched them go.
Go to the Corridor of Elders.
Go to their death.
That's a bit dramatic, she thought to herself. They won't die. They can't.
A dry sob escaped her.
Within a couple hours, they were flying on the legendary Destiny's Bounty on the way to the Corridor. The Alliance was already there, ready for battle.
Chen's Anacondrai army was there, too. The fight had already started.
Kylie's heart leapt into her throat and she felt a wave of nausea as she saw the purple snakes and the colored Elementals clashing hundreds of feet below them.
Kylie was the least aware of everything going on, but she did see their anchor drop, wiping out several Anacondrai vehicles below, then being pulled back up. Skylor hopped onto the huge anchor and gave Nya a thumbs up.
Nya turned to Kylie, who paled. "Now or never, Kylie," she yelled. "They need you down there!"
"What?" Kylie gasped, snapping out of her trance. "I'm not ready! What if-"
"The only 'what ifs' are if you don't help. You're going down there with Skylor. Go on the anchor."
She obeyed, timidly stepping out from the ship and clinging to the huge chain for balance.
"But how am I going to get to them?"
"Skylor will help you, and you can use your fighting skills. I know you can do it, Kylie."
"Ok..." She had to keep herself from holding onto the snake-woman.
The chain was lowered and the violent scene below came quickly into view, and soon they were in the midst of it. Skylor jumped a hoverboard with an Anacondrai on it and punched him off, then flew back to Kylie, who was still hugging the anchor.
"Take this," she told her.
"But I don't know how to fly that thing!" Kylie shrieked.
"Fine, come here." Skylor held out her hand, and Kylie grabbed her arm and stepped out onto the hoverboard. "You just stand on it," she said. Kylie clung to her as they sped above the heads of the snakes toward the Alliance. They reached them and flew past, then landed behind them, and Kylie got off.
"Now go and help them." Skylor pointed to the struggling Alliance. "I'm going to fight!"
"Don't get hurt..." Kylie called after her, but Skylor was gone.
She stared at the people fighting for a moment before detecting some injuries. Someone had been stabbed. She looked around but didn't see who it was, so she tried to feel...
Kai.
She ran to him. Zane was standing over him, telling him to keep breathing. Kylie kneeled next to him and grabbed his hand. He was struggling for breath support.
"Hold on for me, buddy," she told him, starting to untie the straps around his torso. "I just need to get this off..."
He shook his head. "No... time," he gasped.
She nodded, placed her shaking hands carefully over the wound, closed her eyes, and inhaled.
Clear memories of Cole's flooded back, and she was able to mentally relive the elemental process. She felt her eyes filling with tears...
