Bounty hunter
The voice whirred in your head as you awakened. You slowly opened your eyes, adjusting to the harsh light streaming in through your open curtains.
You hummed and turned onto your side, away from the window and the light that is burning your eyes.
Wake up sleepyhead. There is a new alert from dad.
As if pre-planned, your device beeped. It was an old model, hidden away and forgotten by the Tarrons. A quick recalibration later and you now use it to call the man who naively believes he is your father.
He is. Get up.
Her voice was like a kick to the behind, getting you out of bed faster than you ever had before. Why did you share a mind and body with this lunatic?
With a tired hand to the top of the device, it lit up red, a beam shooting from it. Morando's face appeared and you almost felt like puking.
"Raven, a new bounty hunter is on her way to you now. The royals have gotten too far with their plan, make sure she succeeds." His Hand clenched into his fist.
Your eyes flickered slowly, in line with the transmission. A crimson red overtook your normal calm (e/c).
"Dad, I can just bring you the royals" you say as if it is the most obvious solution in the world.
"You are still so incredibly soft, and our connection waivers." He says the word with incredible disdain, spitting it out like venom. You knew no good would come out of arguing with him. So instead you hang your head low and clasp your hands at your abdomen.
"Patience Raven, we will be together in due time" And the light flickers out, your room only being filled by the natural sunlight. Your body lurches forward and your hands grip the desk to keep you from falling face first into it.
The red light falls from your eyes and you can breathe again. Being close to Morando meant he had full control over you. That monster comes out whenever there is a close distance between you.
That stupid, father wanting, Monster.
Your grip loosens and you fall straight on your butt with no care in the world and With a sharp intake of breath you lift yourself off of the floor.
In no less than a second you hear a commotion outside of your room. You hear the distinct voices of the royals, hushed and rushed.
"Mother? What's wrong?" You asked the artificial intelligence. You hoped the answer wasn't a bad one because the only thing on your mind was flopping back into your bed head first and forgetting all about last night.
Seconds past before the voice spoke. "I'm afraid the King has been attacked."
"Krel?" You asked absentmindedly. Of course it was Krel the only other king was the one who was currently only a life core, regenerating as fast as the ship can allow. "Is he okay?" You moved to exit the room, opening the door and slamming it once both of your feet were in the hall.
You received no answer from the AI, which worried you to no end. The sight that greeted you in the kitchen was that of the royals, Vex and the father blank bot which was laid out on the kitchen counter.
His artificial skin was peeled away, showing the white plastic underneath. The bot wasn't completely unscathed, but krel seemed to be. Your relief rose when you caught wind of his smile as he spoke to his sister.
"Everything alright?" You announced, stepping into the kitchen, falling next to Aja, who embarrassingly enough was taller than you.
"Krel was attacked." Aja places a hand on her brother's shoulder, who in turn gives you a glance before looking down at the holographic screen.
Krel keeps his attention on the device, repeating himself, "I'm Fine, he took the hit. It will take time to repair it." The hologram falls away and the glitching blank bot begins to speak gibberish about watches and time.
You had decided last night that Krel wasn't getting his best friend back and in the back of your mind you knew, that that means you weren't getting Krel back.
"Varvatos Vex specifically instructed you to be careful and keep to side streets and alleys." Vex speaks up with a finger pointed at Krel.
"We were in an alley. It was a sneak attack, it seems like the zerons had changed their style." Krel puts down the device he holds.
You groaned internally. He wasn't attacked by the zerons, no, they were much too shy for attacks that don't involve them staying hidden. Krel was attacked by the new bounty Morando warns about.
The blank bot takes Krels last word and rolls with it, going into a rant about style, and staying in it with sunglasses before taking a drastic turn to how life can be better.
Your expression turns into one of confusion. Blanks— or robots for that matter shouldn't be able to be philosophical about life.
"If the Zerons are keeping to the shadows then their attacks will be harder to anticipate." Vex wrestles with Luug who decides to jump on him at that moment. "You three are to stay within the confines of mother. No more school." Vex demands.
Before you could open your mouth to speak, Aja defends, "What? First we're attacked, and then grounded? I have friends at school. Its the closest thing we have to a home here. No offense mother."
"None taken" Says mother.
"We can't live in fear." She puts her hands on her hips. "Wasn't it you who told me it was the fear of injury that will get you killed." Her voice got deeper and she flailed her arms around, trying to imitate Varvatos. She had tried her best...
Well she had tried.
"Throwing Varvotos's words back at him is not the sort of attack Varvotos meant to teach you." Vex storms past Aja and the smirk that paints her face tells that she has won that argument.
