When he was brought back, he was instructed to sit, he remembered what had started this journey. Back in late January, before he was estranged from his parents. His mom had taken him in for almost the same lump, they biopsed it and were concerned. Then, when he moved out he went to the last doctor, the day he found out it really was cancer. His mom had cried then, but due to months of research he and Amity had done, he already knew what was happening.
His vitals were checked and he was weighed.  Then he was instructed to lay down. The attending nurse carefully looked down there, talking to the doctor for a while as they examined him.  The doctor seemed concerned.  Then, he was given a numbing agent,as they took a small skin sample from the lump. He was dressed and waited about an hour. Then the doctor came back in. He appeared solemn.
"Alex, it appears that your tumors have metastasized in your vulva, you're already stage four, but we're going to put you on doxorubicin, now, I will say, this is a last resort." He sighed before placing a hand on Alex's shoulder. "Alex, this treatment will be extremely hard on your body, but due to the level of metastasis, we'll get you started today, on your first cycle." He  smiled sympathetically , "Let's go get your brother and friend from the waiting room so they can be with you."
As they walked out,Alex's eyes welled up with tears. He looked around the room feeling embarrassed because almost everyone was way older than him and his family " James, Amity.. come on." He couldn't even sputter the words out. He just grabbed James hand and took him  and Amity back.. Alex was yet again led into a fluorescent lit hallway , curtains and walls separating each individual "room" he felt his stomach churning as he walked, once he got in that tan chair again, he felt grief hit him like ocean waves. As soon as the nurse brought the iv bag out, Alex squeezed James's hand. The bag was filled with a translucent red liquid.  "Will it hurt?" Alex asked in barely a whisper. James cupped Alex's face in his hand, "I'm not going to lie, kiddo, these next few months are going to hurt like hell. But no matter what , I'll be here for all of it. Even when you eventually lose your hair, or you're in pain, I'll hold you. You will never face this alone. " He moved his hand into Alex's left hand. " All you have to do is kick cancer's ass and I'll be by your side through everything." Alex offered a small smile.
Amity stood next to alex, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Even if I'm not here in the flesh, I'll still be one phone call away. Like james said, kick cancers ass , friend." Amity added. Alex's smile grew slightly larger with this comment. He suddenly looked at her, "I remember this, everything about this room, I saw 6 months before my diagnosis. I remember telling you about the "chemo chair". This feels unreal." James and Amity could only look at Alex. They were rendered speechless that this was actually happening. "I can't believe it.. All our research, every sleepless night, led to this, when everyone told us it was unlikely, I was fucking right!" Amity nodded and hugged Alex for what she hoped wouldn't be the last time before she left. She saw James take Alex home and tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall down her face. "Ïm safe to be around in two days, don't worry!" Alex's echoing voice had reassured her mere minutes ago.
