House of Prologue

Many moons have passed at the House of Anubis. The house once lively with students, is sitting quiet. The ivy growing on the house is covered in frost, the ground covered in a blanket of snow, and the inside of the house is just as dead as the outside. The fireplaces are cold, the air is chilly, and the halls are silent. Victor Rodenmaar, the tired and aging caretaker was gathering his other belongings before he was going to sell the house. It was not an easy decision for him, as he had grown up there with his father, and had cared for the house for many years. The house was his responsibility and his father's before him. Now that he had sold it, and had the money to leave, he could now hand over the responsibilities to someone else. As he stood in the foyer, he felt the house, and could envision all of his younger memories there, playing in the halls with Sarah Frobisher-Smythe.

He could hear the voice of his father echoing through the halls. He could see the previous owners, Robert and Louisa Frobisher-Smythe, and the students that lived there. As he stood in the middle of the hall, he had the feeling of being watched. Turning around, he saw Trudy standing. Trudy Rehmann, was the house mother that had cared for the children and made sure they ate and were tidy before they head to school. Anubis house was one of many houses on the school's grounds. This school, Amun Academic Boarding School, was in the countryside out of Liverpool, England.

"Trudy," Victor says.

"Hello Victor. It seems the house will no longer be your responsibility after today," she says, with sadness.

"Yes. I expect you will be fine with whoever takes my role," he tells her, as he glances around the hall.

"It is not like you are leaving forever," Trudy replies. "Right?"

"I have fulfilled my obligations here," he answers her, turning back towards her.

"And that's it then?"

"I am moving on."

"Where are you going to go?" Trudy asks.

"And what business is that of yours?"

Trudy stared back at Victor silently.

"Trudy, have you possibly answered a call for me? I was expecting the new house owner to be here. He is late," he complains.

"There is no one here but us," Trudy explains.

"Then, where is he?"

"The new owner was calling here earlier. He seemed in a hurry," she explains.

"He did not tell you where he was?" Victor asks.

"No, he did not."

Victor sighs, as he hears a door creak behind him, he then pulled out his pocket watch, and then closed it.

"You're really in a hurry to leave this place?" Trudy asked.

Victor stood there, then putting his pocket watch away. Trudy did not want Victor to leave. She had worked with him there for years, and it was sure to be even more quiet with not only him gone, but the Anubis residents. They had already left months before after graduating. There were new students but because of Victor leaving, they were not going to be staying at Anubis house, and were situated at one of the other houses on the school's grounds. Victor had left Anubis house once before, but soon returned after he had realized he had left some of his belongings down in the cellar. He had ended up staying longer at Anubis house, not leaving his warm office. That was until, Mr. Sweet, the headmaster, had called him over to the school, during a snowfall. That Winter was very cold. There was a for sale sign out in front of Anubis, and a man by the name of Kai had seen it and was interested in the job at Anubis house. Mr. Sweet had asked Victor many times if he was sure that he wanted to leave so quickly, and Victor said that he had already fulfilled his destiny, and that it was time for him to move on from the house. Outside, a taxi pulled up to the Anubis house. It was the new caretaker, named Kai.

"I have spent more than a lifetime here with the time that I do have left," he responded to her, quietly.

The two were interrupted as they heard the door bell ring. Before the two of them could open the door, Victor turned to see Kai walk in. Kai, late 50s. He was wearing a coat and was holding a hat. An older man with dusty blonde hair, he had a 5 o'clock shadow.

"Ah, Kai," Victor says. "You're late,"

"I'm Trudy,"

"Sorry, I had a bit of trouble finding this place," Kai responds to Victor. "It is a bit harder to see out there with the snow falling,"

"Not to worry," Victor says. "Trudy, will have your bags brought in, and will show you to the place,"

Kai nodded, and smiled at Trudy, putting his bag down. Trudy smiled back at him, then left the house to grab the rest of his suitcases. Victor and Kai stared at each other with blank expressions. Kai then examined the hall, seeing a sarcophagi and then the table where the telephone was.

"Mr. Sweet tells me that you have the money order ready in the office?" Victor asked him.

"I do," Kai responds.

"Good," Victor responds. "I shall leave you and Trudy to it,"

Victor grabbed his bag, took one last look inside of the house, and then walked out the front door. Trudy was seen saying bye to the taxi driver, and approached the door with the rest of his bags.

"Goodbye, Trudy," Victor told her.

Trudy nodded, put her hand out, waiting for Victor to shake it. He then pat Trudy on her shoulder, and gave her a weak smile.

"Any problems, and forward those to Mr. Sweet," he told her, then taking his hand off of her shoulder, and walking towards the school to get his money.

Trudy waved goodbye, her small smile turning into a frown as he walked away from the House of Anubis.

"He has been here a long time," Trudy explains to Kai, as she opens the door.

Kai nods and watches as Victor disappears into the snowfall, heading towards the school.
