The Search for Clues

***

Nathan pushed open the door to Alex's room and found him engrossed in his laptop, working on something intently.

"Hey, buddy," Nathan greeted, curious about why they had agreed to meet so early in the morning. "What's going on? Why did you want to meet me and Haney at 5 am?"

"Ah, you're here!" Alex exclaimed, looking up from his laptop. "Haney is in the other room. Let's head over there and discuss the plan."

"Do you think yesterday's fire was caused by a natural phenomenon?"

Alex's voice carried a hint of concern as he sought Nathan's opinion on the matter. The events of the previous day had left them the three of them puzzled, searching for answers to explain the unexpected fire.

Haney stood in front of the mirror, gently combing her hair before joining Alex and Nathan. She grabbed a chair and positioned it in front of them.

As Alex took his seat, his gaze shifted towards Haney, silently acknowledging her presence. Meanwhile, Nathan pondered the question, deep in thought, searching for the best response to Alex's inquiry.

"It could be!"

Nathan was silent for a second, waiting for Alex's response.

Haney chimed in, expressing her doubts about the fire being a result of natural causes. "To me, it seems highly unlikely that such a massive fire engulfing the entire forest could be attributed to a natural phenomenon. It feels more like an intentional act."

Alex's gaze shifted back and forth between Nathan and Haney, absorbing their differing opinions.

"I have to agree with Haney," Alex stated firmly, aligning his viewpoint with hers. "Given the extent of the fire and the circumstances surrounding it, it's difficult to believe that it was solely caused by a natural phenomenon."

Nathan's expression turned slightly doubtful as he processed Alex's agreement. The divergence in their opinions added another layer of complexity to the situation, leaving them with more questions than answers.

A brief silence hung in the air as everyone absorbed the weight of their differing opinions. Just as Nathan was about to express his agreement with Haney and Alex, their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the entrance of another person into the room.

All eyes turned simultaneously towards the newcomer who had just walked in. His presence immediately shifted the focus of the discussion.

"What's going on here?" Gab inquired, sensing the tension in the room.

Alex hesitated, realizing he hadn't yet informed his father about the fire incident. Haney, noticing the unspoken revelation, questioned Alex with a concerned tone, "You didn't tell him yet?"

Confusion clouded Gab's face as he sought clarification on the topic at hand.

"Tell about what?" he asked, trying to grasp the conversation that had been taking place in his absence.

Before Alex could respond, Gab interjected, having overheard their discussion about the forest fire.

"I heard you talking about the fire in the forest," Gab acknowledged. "Were you there?"
