7 - Extermination

We're gonna be really good friends.

I was right, maybe too right.

Thing is, me and Vox never split from that moment. I kept sleeping in his bed to be sure he recharged well, and shit, we discovered I don't really need to sleep every night, once each month.
Not having the need to sleep is helpful, and honestly I started being friends with Velvette as well. She's pretty annoying, but in the end she's Vox's friend so it's bearable.

Val is the problem, not much of one tho, I just need to stay away from him. Thing is that in the last days Vox never got out of his control room, never. And that's concerning.
That morning I was sure he didn't even have breakfast, so I grabbed a Pipeline Punch Monster and made nutella toasts. I walked up to his private elevator and got down in the room, he was sitting there, observing the bright screens.

Venom🦂: "Hey Samsung, I know you're a TV yourself but I don't think it's a good idea to stay here all day and night, you haven't recharged in seventy-two hours straight."

He didn't turn the chair, so I did it for him. The bags under his eyes were unignorable, his body barely moving as he looked up at me from the bottom of his swivel chair.

Vox📺: "What's up...? Are the angels here yet?"

Venom🦂: "Angels?"

Vox📺: "Yeah, the exterminators...?"

We kept staring at each other, not knowing what the other was saying.

Vox📺: "Once a year angels come down here and exterminate demons in the street because of the overpopulation."

Venom🦂: "...I didn't know that."

Vox📺: "Now you do."

Venom🦂: "That's why there's a gigantic hourglass in the middle of Pentagram-city?"

Vox📺: "Yep."

He turned again, and on one of the left screens I saw the white spider guy that was crying in Val's studio some days ago.

Venom🦂: "Who's that?"

Vox📺: "Uh? Angel Dust, one of Val's actors."

I didn't tell him about what I saw, but soon enough the screens became red with a danger sign on them.

Vox📺: "IT'S STARTING!"

He tried to run out of the room, but I grabbed his hand.

Venom🦂: "Vox what's happening?"

When he turned to look at me the expression on his face was almost scarry. He never panics, but at that moment he was panicking.
Without me saying anything else he cupped my face with his hands and looked me dead in the eyes.

Vox📺: "Don't go out of the building, don't even try it! I'll see how many of our employees I can close in."

He stormed out as I stayed in the room, but when I looked at the screens I saw how rivers of demons stormed into the studios. Suddenly I saw a short figure out on the streets, not too far from the building and noticing it was a child I immediately ran out.
I literally jumped the flow of demons coming inside and stormed out of the doors, running on the street until I saw the child. They had their legs under a piece of a building so I went to free it. Before I could run away a white spear pierced the ground next to me.

There, I saw them.
Angels.

Some of them had blood in their hands and all over their bodies, and not for one second I thought of not running. I did, but they kept attacking, until at some point I fell down. I covered the kid with my body to protect them, but three angels came up to us.
I closed my eyes, ready to die again by a "pure blade" but the pain never came. I looked and saw how the angels had run after some other older demons, so I took the occasion and ran away. Passing by an empty battlefield, tho, I saw something. A body.

It was just like the angel's ones, but this one didn't have the head attached. I found it not far from the corpse so I covered the kid's eyes and grabbed the angel's head, wrapping it in a cloth I found lying around.
Without wasting time I tied it to my tail and got up, running between all the broken shit on the battlefield and finally getting out of it. I stopped a moment, thinking I saw another demon, red hair and some weird ass green aura, but I kept going, thinking about the kid's safety and mine. While going I somehow thought about what Vox told me.

"I did get out, but for a good reason. He'll understand."
