Werewolf.
Man that becomes wolf. Wolf that becomes man.
Every time I watched the people passing in the street, I could only imagine them with sharp claws, thick fur, beady eyes and even sharper teeth. Then it would take me back to that awful night where I nearly died.
It was a vicious cycle.
Michelle was a Human Relations Manager, meaning she dealt with any interactions between the pack and humans. The pack was Black Rock's werewolves who were under their lycan alpha, whatever that was.
All I knew was that I was not safe here.
It only got worse when I nearly bumped into the Beta. Michelle explained the important stuff. The Alpha leads the pack. His word was law. He assigns a Beta and Gamma to overlook major things in the pack. They have people working under them. So the Beta was super important and powerful.
All the more reason for me to leave.
They had me working four days a week. I was going to be under Human Relations while being integrated into the pack. Since I had graduated from high school, they offered me the opportunity to take courses at their pack college. If accepted, I would wait six months before I could go. I was on probation after all.
But I was not planning on staying for that long.
I did everything I could to find Tammy. I poked into a lot of records. I started at the pack clinic, where I searched every room and snuck into their records room. Then at Human Relations I snuck into Michelle's office and nearly got caught.
Tammy was nowhere in the pack.
That meant I had to leave and look at this from a different angle, then work my way back into the pack. I would need help, maybe by alerting the police first. But for now, I had to leave.
They had relaxed around me. I could dare say they trusted me. After all, I could barely walk without any help. I was also an emotional mess. I could not sleep well and had no appetite. Doctor Ambrose was trying to coax me into therapy but I refused. I did not trust them and I did not want them to find out what I had gone through.
I smiled to Collette, who I was working with in her office. I had to do some filing and arranging to pass time. I did not go for lunch because of my lack of appetite so Collette had gotten used to me staying back. That was the opportunity I needed.
I grabbed the keys in Collette's red purse, my guilty conscience making me leave behind a note to apologise. I cursed my legs as I dragged them to the back exit, trying not to look suspicious.
I heaved out a breath when I finally got to her car. No one was around so I easily slipped in. Tammy's bucket list had driving on it. Even though I did not have a license, I knew my way around a car. My heart was pounding as I drove out of the parking lot. If I got caught now, I would be in a lot of trouble.
They could even take me back to the Beta.
I shook my head of the horrid though, keeping my mind on the task at hand to make sure I would be successful. The lives of my best friend and I were at stake.
I recalled the map I spent all night memorising. For a beginner driver like me, a fifteen minute drive became a thirty minute one as I manoeuvred new territory as well as the car itself. I smiled when a sizeable but homey log cabin came into view.
From my limited research, the Alpha was a reserved man who worked from the comfort of his home. He socialised enough and was a fair alpha who helped the pack progress. However, there was not much else about the man. I only hoped he would be fair enough to hear me out.
