My mind was blank for longer than I liked. The Alpha ushered me to a seat after tidying up a little. He was unsteady, his eyes all over the place. He watched me a couple of times with uncertainty in his eyes.

Dull black curls we pulled back as they constantly covered his face after he took the seat adjacent to me. He was silent for a while before calling out my name.

"Miss Miller?"

"Hmm?" I looked up, concentrating on his face more than his existence around me.

"Are you alright?" He questioned, his brows knitting together.

"Hmm?" I hummed again.

He flinched. "Let me get you some water."

He stood up and left the room. I left my seat after the door closed behind the Alpha and turned to where I last saw that thing. It was gone now. Had it even been there before? It seemed so real. Was I hallucinating? Was I going crazy?

Upon realising that the alpha was gone a while, the walls began closing in on me. I managed to convince myself what I saw was real, even though the alpha who had been in the room with me didn't see it. My skin pricked and it was hard to breathe. I slouched, my fingers grabbing the roots of my hair in frustration.

"Kendall. Are you alright?" The alpha asked after he returned.

It was mismatched, the crinkled shirt, black pants, house shoes and kitchen tray with a jar of juice, bottles of water and two cups. I finally stood back up, looking around the room once more to ensure I was safe.

"Why don't you take a seat and tell me what has been bothering you?" He invited, placing the tray on the coffee table.

I lingered for another second before approaching him. "Are you sure you didn't see that thing?"

He blinked, hesitating. Or was he just thinking? "No."

I sat down, accepting the bottle of water and taking a sip. That was all I could handle as my stomach was unsettled.

"I thought I saw something," I rambled, fidgeting with the bottle in my hand. "I must be going crazy. Its definitely the stress."

I chuckled to myself, the awkwardness heavy around us. The alpha remains silent so I went for something else to talk about.

"You said there was something you needed to talk about?" He said.

"Yes!" I instantly replied, recalling the matter at hand. "We made a mistake and maybe we'll be punished for that. We weren't supposed to trespass onto your land but we were foolish enough to. I understand why this is all happening."

He leaned back. "Ah, I see. This matter is being handled by the Beta. I'm sure you've met him. The proper protocols are being met, I assure you."

"Oh," i said, flinching at the mention of the Beta. "Okay but... I can't find my friend Tammy anywhere. I need to know what happened to her. We came here together. It was her crazy idea. She wanted to see this place before she... Tammy has cancer. The doctors said she didn't have long. Do you know where I can see her? Could anyone tell me what happened to her?"

I looked at the alpha pleadingly, sitting at the edge of my seat anxiously. I wanted something to go on, anything. I was clinging onto the tiny hope that she was alive. But even if the worst came true, I needed to know. For her sake and mine.

"I'm sorry to hear that you're going through all that. I'll make sure the matter is investigated thoroughly," he dismissively said.

My heart sank. "What? You won't help me?"
