"She's fine."

I stirred, shifting from an uncomfortable position. I was on a couch in the living room. I quickly sat up and looked around, relieved not to find that ghost anywhere. The alpha was sitting on the coffee table, hunched over as he looked at me. The delta was on the opposite couch, looking bored. Mariah had her arms crossed over her chest as she glared at me.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"That's what I want to know. You passed out as if you'd seen something frightening," the delta said, his voice taunting.

I caught the alpha flinching but was distracted when Mariah scoffed. "She's quite the actress."

"Can I go? I really don't want to be here," I requested, glancing over my shoulder when I felt a slight chill.

"Drive her back," the alpha said as he stood up, going outside in silence.

Mariah walked out right away, leaving the delta staring at me. Still wary and very uncomfortable, I followed the alpha out of the house. He stood by the porch, leaning against a pillar with his eyes closed.

"What is that thing?" I asked, my voice trembling. "Don't lie to me, please. I know you can see it. Is that really a ghost?"

"I don't know."

I felt the helplessness and honesty in his voice. It only served to frighten me even more. He was hiding nothing. That made me even more curious.

"Have you ever tried to find out? Why are we the only people who can see it? Isn't there anyone else?" I urged him to give me answers.

He stared at me blankly. "Until now, I've been convincing myself that I was making things up. It's not real."

"Well, you've been lying to yourself," I pointed out, walking closer to him.

He bobbed his head and chuckled lightly. "It's more frightening trying to figure out who you are, Kendall Miller."

His statement took me by surprise. He pushed himself from the pillar, shoving his hands in his pockets as he approached me. He leaned in slightly then pulled back.

"How about we do this? We're both oblivious to something we should have figured out by now. You find out mine, I find out yours," he said.

I frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Find out what that ghost is and why it lurks around me while I find out who you are and how you ended up in my pack."

"That's crazy-"

"If you do, then you'll find your friend, Tammy."

I gritted my teeth. "Does that mean she's alive?"

"That's for you to find out," he chuckled.

The door opened for the delta who watched the two of us. The alpha's mood turned sour and he scowled.

"I trust you've talked things over. We have a deal, don't we, Alpha?" The delta said.

"Mind yourself, Delta. I don't take kindly to threats," Alpha hissed.

Delta raised his arms defensively. "I wouldn't dare."

With that, he walked to the car and got in, starting the engine. He didn't leave right away, probably waiting for me. I began to follow after him when Alpha held my arm.

"How about you learn a little history? It's good to know where you're coming from to know where to go."

Alpha disappeared into the cabin with those words. I briskly walked to the delta's truck and jumped in.
