Over the past year of peace that Sebastien Beckett had, he had learned some things about himself. More specifically, his origin story.

Okay, sure, that's a bit dramatic, but so what? Sebastien loved comic books and he loved superheroes. He was absolutely going to call this his origin story. It was! Things happened to him, he got superpowers- which he had learned to have almost full control over-, and then he used them to kick ass at twelve-years old.

Now, at almost thirteen years old (his birthday wasn't until late November.), Sebastien's head reeled at the thought of his origin story. It wasn't too complicated but knowing it had been kept from him for his entire life was kind of mind-boggling.

Two people knew! Two! And he had no idea until he made a branch smack his bully in the face.

To make it all simple: Sebastien's parents worked for Hawkin's Lab. His mother, Amy Ziegler (nee Walters), had taken part in an experiment when pregnant with the boy. Amy was one of the only true survivors of Project MKUltra, the tests not affecting her or hurting her in any way whatsoever. She showed zero results.

So, they stopped. Then Sebastien was born, the boy being the light of Amy and Mason Ziegler's lives. They loved him purely and unconditionally.

However, he was an exceptional child. In the unnatural sense, obviously. Besides the fact that his powers started to show at an incredibly young age, Sebastien was the first experiment to not have any type of psychic ability. And that made him dangerous as well as weaponizable.

At least, that's how Dr. Martin Brenner thought.

If this child showed results from the experiment his mother was a part of, then why wasn't he being taken and placed with the numbers? Why were the superiors letting the Ziegler's get out of this?

Quick answer: They weren't. Not really. Not at all, actually. In fact, the people at Hawkins Lab had formulated a plan to get that child, that powerful child, into their hands so they could slap a number on his wrist and use him like the others.

But Mason and Amy were smarter than that. They knew exactly who they worked for. They knew the lengths these power-crazed people would go to, to get their son's strength on their side.
