Slow motion...

My eyes shifted from the black depths to the brown havens. Nick's eyes showed confusion, shock and I don't know why, but he looked amused.

Walter winked at me. I blushed.

No. Not why you think. It was because Nick saw it all.

Walter slowly moved towards us. The sound of children playing in the park went fainter and fainter.

And I goosebumped.

Because Nick had held my hand.

What a sissy. Conscience rolled her eyes.

His grip tightened.

Er, dude. It's gonna start to hurt. Conscience said.

He slowly stood, making me stand too. I looked up at him, his eyes... He was daggering them at Walter.

Does anyone remember I asked for popcorn?! Conscience said out loud. Very much so, yes. Replied my brain. Oh so you are alive. Conscience sarcasmed. Obviously, otherwise Peyton would've died as well. Brain said in a matter-of-fact tone. Where's buttmunch? Conscience asked about heart. He's trying to calm down. Brain sighed. Fine whatevs. Get me my popcorn. She ordered. Okay. Brain showed her a lame face.

"Hello, starling!" Walter said in the jolliest of tones.

I rolled my eyes.

Nick turned to look at me.

"And hello!" Walt said in the same tone, "....you." He said in a disgusted tone, narrowing his eyes at Nick as he approached us.

I narrowed my eyes at Walt. "Nick let's go home." I said in a low voice, not taking my loathing stare away from Walter.

"I'd rather stay and figure things out." He said sternly, letting go of my hand.

My heart... Slowed down. Not because it calmed down, but because it was tired of beating like crazy.

Okay so you let go of Pey's hand because a nigga came sayin' some pile o' crap to your gal? The hell, dude the nigga only said hi! Conscience spazzed. He isn't a "nigga" by the way. Brain clarified. Shut it, twit. Conscience threw a popcorn at him. Brain stared at her.

I hugged myself and looked at my converse shoes.

"Wouldn't you say it back?" Walt smiled at me.

I gave him a look.

"Very well, darling." He shrugged. "What about you?" He looked at Nick.

"Hi." Nick said, a peculiar smile on his face.
