I sit alone in the corner of the crowded cafeteria, waiting for my friends to arrive from their last classes. I'm not really hungry today, so I just sit here picking at my food. I hear familiar voices, which is what brings me to look up from my food. I see Olivia and Lucas, two of my best friends, coming towards our usual table. The two are dating and are an incredibly cute couple. I wish i would have someone, to be like this with. (Does this sentence make sense?idk)

"What's up, Y/n" Lucas says as he sits down in front of me. "Idk guys. I'm not feeling really well today" I answer. "You're on your period?" Oh no. This stupid, very, very familiar voice. Once I used to love it, now i hate it. Me, Connor and Brady, who is Connor's twin brother, were best friends since we were born because our parents went to the same college and are best friends too. But when highschool started we grew apart and Connor and Brady got themselves some new and cooler friends. We are complete opposites now. They are the populars. The handsome, smart, soccer, bad boys. Well, and then there's me, the quiet, smart, shy freak, by who people want to copy their homework. Privately, we rarely see each other now. Except for family dinners with the Noons. Every time, it's awkward as hell. We don't speak to each other and don't even look at each other. I can't bring it over my heart to tell my parents, that the two boys, who would've protect me from everything when we were younger, now make fun of me in school. They wouldn't believe me anyway. They still think that one day I will marry Connor because of our promise we did when we were younger. But that was a long time ago. It will never happen.

Laughter comes from behind me as Connor Noons friends laugh at his stupid joke. "Leave her alone bro". I turn around to see another one of my best friends. Jason. He is in the same soccer team as Connor and his friends and is also quite popular but he still hangs up around us. I don't even know why.

"Or what?" Brady says. "Or you will find out if you don't" Jason says confidently as he sits down next to me. The group roll their eyes as they mumble some words about us being pussies or something. Before I could turn around again, Connor grabs my baseball cap from my head and smashes it into my food tray. I jump off my seat, so that my clothes wouldn't get dirty with the spaghetti sauce. "WHAT THE FUCK DUDE" Jason shouts for the whole cafeteria to hear. He and Lucas jump up from their seat and walk towards the group. The crowd got silent by now and I look around to see many eyes staring at us. Jason goes for Connor and grabs his collar, while he just smirks at him. "I told you to leave her alone. WHAT IS NOT TO BE UNDERSTOOD ABOUT IT?" I place my hand on Jason's shoulder trying to calm him down. "Jason let him go. He's not worth it. It's okay "

Jason let's go of Connor and wraps his arm around my waist (and no they're not a couple), looking me in the eyes. I glance one last time at Connor as I see something flicker in his eyes as he looks down at Jason's arm. He quickly looks away and scoffs. He puts his stupid smirk on and then mentions for his friends to leave. "Let's go boys. These freaks are not worth my time"

I roll my eyes as I grab my rucksack and baseball cap, covered with spaghetti. "Thank you Jason. But I need to go to the bathroom and clean this cap." "I will go with you" Olivia says as she stands up and walks over to me, giving me a reassuring look.

We walk to the bathroom, Olivia giving me side glances all the time. „Whats up, Livi?" „what's up with you and Jason?" she asks smirking. „Nothing livi. We're just friends! I promise." „Alrighto" she says grinning.
