He sat under the stars, feeling completely dejected. Another day, another lost match and yet another time when he made his country deprived of the joy of winning. Neither did he contribute as a batsman, nor as a wicket keeper. He felt like an absolute failure. He did not deserve the team's trust in him, Virat's and Rohit's trust in him.
He didn't understand why did they still keep him in the team anyway?
He sighed, and rubbed his forehead to ease out the incoming headache. Sleep was far away from his eyes, to be honest it was days since he had even slept properly. Whenever he closed his eyes, Rohit's and Virat's disappointed faces, came before him.
Who can forget the trolls? One bad match and even the most loyal fans go berserk.
He closed his eyes and groaned in frustration. Gripping the railing in his hands, he let his silent tears flow. He felt hopeless, wanted to scream loudly, but found that his throat could not even muster up a croak. They had a match tomorrow and even though Rahul had practiced hard, he still felt like he would do nothing in tomorrow's match. Gosh what a horrible life this was.
This was how Rohit found Rahul when he came on the terrace.
Rohit knew what Rahul was going through. He knew this was just a temporary phase, was sure that he would overcome this, but he also knew that if one can climb feats of glory in his career, he can also go down as swiftly as snow falling from a rooftop and every player has to go through the good times and the bad. But in your downfall what is important, is that you rise from above it all and claim the place that was once yours, showing the world with pride that this is who I am.
Even Rohit had his fair share of ups and downs, he had gone through that horrid depressing phase, sometimes even wanting to leave cricket forever, but he had his people to look out for him, to pull him out from his wallow of self pity and get him back on track. He had his beloved Mahi bhai, his unwavering trust in Rohit helping him overcome his hurricane of bad times. Rohit knew the importance of having someone you trusted so much, to have the same trust in you.
Here was one such kid, who under the demeanor of an icy cold personality was just another small boy, who at this moment needed someone to give him his little reality check, which Mahi bhai so graciously gave Rohit, each time.
And Rohit was going to do just that.
Rohit always had a particular fondness for this kid and since he began opening with him, both of them had grown considerably closer. After spending so much time with him, Rohit realized that Rahul was more like him. He was a quiet kid and mostly kept to himself unless it was necessary. His mature facade dropped in front of a very few people and Rohit considered himself genuinely lucky to be on that list.
So with a determination to get people's matters straight into their heads, Rohit entered the terrace. He sat down beside Rahul, folded his arms, rested his back on the wall and began gazing at the stars.
Rahul noticed his presence but he did not say anything, he had quickly wiped his tears which he dearly hoped had escaped Rohit's notice, which obviously had not, but since Rohit had not said anything about it Rahul felt that he was successful.
But he didn't know why some part of him wished that Rohit had seen his tears or noticed his dejected face or something, and had hugged him. Rahul desperately craved for a hug, and he wished and wished that Rohit just held him close and comforted him.
