"JAMES YOU DOG!" Sirius roared as they raced past Severus and Lily. "FUNNY YOU SHOULD SAY THAT, SIRIUS!" James screeched back, aiming a piece of candy at Sirius and launching it at his face.
Sirius dodged, a wild grin on his face. "THIS IS SO MUCH FUN! I FEEL BAD FOR ANYONE WHO MISSES OUT!" Peter yelled.
Way to make it subtle, Peter. Sirius thought, inwardly rolling his eyes.
Sirius watched Lily's face carefully. She stared at them coldly, her bright green eyes glittering spitefully. "Back off!" She spat.
James stopped and stared at her. "We were just heading to The Three Broomsticks." He said, smiling. "Care to join us?"
Lily scowled hatefully. "Not even if my life depended on it, you arse!" She snapped. Then she spun on her heel and marched away. Severus shot the four boys a triumphant look before striding after her.
Sirius sighed and looked at James. "Sorry, buddy." He said, walking over to him and ruffling his already messy hair. Remus and Peter followed his lead, except they didn't ruffle James's hair, they only gave him punches on the shoulder.
"AHHH! STOP IT PADFOOT!" James wailed as Sirius continued to mess up his hair. "Like it can get worse, you git." Sirius snorted, receiving a punch in the chest from James.
"You'll get her eventually, Prongsy, old pal." Remus assured. James smirked. "Of course I will. Don't forget boys, you're talking to a Potter. Evans will see sense eventually. Who would want to date that slimeball of a boy anyway?"
Despite his brave words, Sirius notice that James's hazel eyes were unsure. "Well, let's go get a butterbeer." Peter chirped, starting off down the street.
Exchanging half-harassed half-amused glances, the three boys followed Peter.
As they walked down the street, something caught Sirius's eye. "OI!LEE!" He shouted, staring at the brown-haired girl walking the opposite way down the street.
Anna stopped and looked at Sirius, her expression puzzled. "Uh, yeah?"
"Are you too busy to come to The Three Broomsticks with us?" Sirius asked, surprising himself. Anna's cheeks turned red. "I...er...well I suppose I can walk there with you...but I was already...er...planning on meeting somebody there." She stammered.
Sirius shrugged. "Alright, Lee. Just try to keep up."
He started jogging along the road. As if they had been given a signal, Remus, James, and Peter followed.
James caught up with Sirius and matched him step for step. "Why'd you invite that Lee girl?" He asked. Sirius shrugged. "She's Lily's friend. I suppose I figured she could help you get in league with that girl."
James nodded, though he still looked slightly incredulous. Ignoring this look, Sirius turned into the door of the little pub.
James and Sirius chose a table and waited for the others to show up. Remus and Peter walked in two minutes later, followed closely by Anna.
Sirius caught Anna's eye. She looked away quickly, her cheeks turning bright red, then looked back and offered a shy smile. Sirius kicked his feet up on the table and grinned back.
Anna walked away to join a group of girls at a table at the other side of the pub. Sirius watched her go before turning back to his friends. He was startled to see them all staring at him.
"What?" He asked, annoyance edging his voice. Remus clasped his hands and set his chin on then. "Do you have a..." He paused, as if searching for the right word. His eyes flicked over to Anna, sitting with her friends and laughing.
"Do you fancy her?" Peter asked, interrupting Remus. His face had an eager shine to it.
Sirius widened his eyes, surprised that he had been asked this question twice. "What is wrong with you three?" He asked. "Really, are you daft? I've got girls chasing after me, there's no reason for me to chase after them! Really, I was just trying to help James get a little closer to Evans. Lee and Evans are friends, after all."
No one looked convinced.
Sirius took his feet off the table and glared at his friends. "Really, why are you so convinced that I fancy her? I don't fancy girls! Girls fancy me!" He snapped.
Remus smiled a little. "Of course, Padfoot. Moony was just curious."
Sirius scowled. "You guys are my best mates," he said stiffly. "Of course I would tell you who I fancy. It's not her though, really don't worry."
"It's not her..." James said thoughtfully. "Does that mean it's somebody else?"
Sirius smacked his forehead. "I just explained that I would tell you!"
James held up his hands. "Don't kill me, Padfoot. I was only wondering."

"I don't think I can eat another one, Prongsy." Sirius moaned, clutching his stomach and shying away from the chocolate frog that James was wavin under his nose.
"Come on, Padfoot!" James urged. "One more and you'll beat your old record of 394!"
Sirius moaned again and turned to Remus. "Moony, please, help me." He begged. Remus looked up from his book. He cocked an eyebrow and tilted his head. "Is that really safe?" He asked James.
James grinned wickedly. "Safe? Since when have we cared about safety?" He paused, seeming to think about something. "I don't see how it's unsafe, really."
"Well," Remus carefully marked his page and set down his book. He fixed his eyes back on James and rested his chin on his clasped hands, just like he had done when he had questioned Sirius about who he fancied.
"Padfoot is...in his own way...part dog. We all know that chocolate can kill dogs..."
Sirius scrambled a little farther backwards, this new thought unsettling him.
James, on the other hand, snorted in amusement. "Really, Moony, you're just too careful. I'm sure Padfoot will be fine."
Peter stretched. "I'm tired." He announced, getting slowly to his feet. I'll be going to bed." He slipped off toward the boys' dormitories.
"HERE PADFOOT!" James shouted, shoving the last chocolate frog into Sirius's mouth. Sirius chewed it and swallowed it, watched closely by his two friends.
"That wasn't too bad." He said.
That is, right before he puked them all back up.
