"How was your Christmas, Wormtail?" Sirius asked, bouncing a bit in his seat on the Hogwarts Express.
Peter grinned. "It was great. Got everything I asked for. Missed you guys though!" He said so quickly you could have called it a single sentence.
"Did you ask for a lot of sugar?" James asked, reclining and throwing his feet up next to Remus. Remus glanced down at him from his new book. "You're dirtying the seats." He said tonelessly.
James shrugged and took a bite of his chocolate frog, getting crumbs all over his robes. "I dirty everything, Moony. I would have thought, that after being friends with me for five years, you would have figured that out."
Remus shrugged. He had obviously stopped listening as soon as James said "Moony". James didn't seem to care much. He took another bite of his chocolate frog and grinned. "Sirius got to burn a Slytherin poster." He said proudly.
Peter looked at Sirius, almost in awe. "Did you really?"
"Oh yeah." Sirius replied, smiling lazily and kicking his feet up as well. Remus didn't even glance at him.
"Wow, Moony." James muttered, brushing some crumbs off of his chest. "I like how you yell at me but not at ol' Padfoot."
Remus didn't even flinch. "HEY MOONY!" Sirius yelled, waving his hand in front of his friend's face. "GET YOUR WOLFY LITTLE FACE OUT OF THAT BOOK!"
"Hmmmm?" Remus muttered, raising his eyebrows.
"Prat," James muttered. He looked out the window for a moment, seemingly deep in thought. "You know, compared to Sirius' gift, mine wasn't all the great."
"Keep quiet, mate." Sirius snapped. "Mine wasn't even supposed to be burned."
"Yeah but you could burn it." James retorted. "It's not like I could burn anything."
Sirius opened his mouth to reply, but was interrupted by their compartment door sliding open. There stood Lily Evans and Anna Lee. "Hey," Anna said, grinning and waving.
"Hello Evans." James said, wiggling his eyebrows and completely ignoring Anna. Anna looked like she wanted to laugh. Lily scrunched up her eyebrows. "Potter." She greeted him curtly.
James shook his head. "I didn't get a gift from you this year, Evans."
"You never have." Lily turned and walked away, dragging Anna, who looked like she had been hoping to say something, after her.
Sirius poked James's shoulder and raised his eyebrows. James tilted his head. "What?"
"I thought you said you were done going after her." Sirius said.
James scoffed, ruffling his hair. "I am done going after her."
Sirius started to laugh. "'I didn't get a gift from you this year, Evans'!" He mocked in a high-pitched voice. "You have got to be kidding me Prongs!"
James blushed a little bit, which only made Sirius laugh harder. Peter was happy to join in on the laughter, probably because he wasn't the one being laughed at.
Remus sighed loudly and shut his book with a bang. "Really, with all your bloody laughter you'd think that Lily just said yes to going on a date with dear old Prongsy."
This only made Sirius laugh harder, just the thought of it seemed stupid. "Well, it's not as unlikely as Betty going on a date with Wormtail!" James shouted, his entire face was red. Peter stopped laughing. "Well...it could happen."
Sirius laughed so hard that no sound came out. James and Remus both cracked smiles, but it was probably more of a cause of Sirius's laughing fit than anything else.

Sirius hadn't really bothered to unpack his stuff. Rather, he decided to dump it on the ground and use it whenever it was needed.
"Do you want to put that stuff away, mate?" James asked, looking at the ground with disapproval. "It does make the room seem a bit stuffy."
Sirius kicked himself off of his bed and cocked an eyebrow. "I suppose it does, Prongs." He said, which seemed to confuse James. "I'll fix it."
He poked everything under his bed with his foot, grinned, clapped his hands, and said: "Out of sight, out of mind."
Remus sighed and leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. "You know, Padfoot—"
Sirius just put on a smiling face. "Yes, dear Moony?"
Remus opened his mouth, closed it, scrunched up his face, and just shook his head. "You're a git, you know that?"
"Yes, I do." Sirius agreed, his tone of voice very...well...serious. "And I'm quite proud of it, thank you very much."
There was a moment of silence in the room, then Sirius, James, and Remus all started laughing. They laughed until Peter, who had not been present in the room, threw open the door and yelled that he had great news.
"What is it, Wormtail?" Sirius asked, wiping a tear from his eye.
"BETTY FEY ASKED ME TO TAKE A WALK BY THE LAKE WITH HER!" Peter shouted, his voice high-pitched and full of glee.
This statement was greeted by silence at first. It seemed as though everyone was too stunned to imagine this.
Peter, out of all of them, was the first to be asked around by the girl he fancied.
"Congratulations, mate." James said, slapping Peter on the back. His voice was a bit devoid of emotion.
"Wormtail, I think it's time we had a talk." Sirius announced, approaching Peter and placing a hand on his shoulder.
"What?"
"Well, if that Betty girl makes you walk by the lake..."
"Yeah?"
"Run as fast as you can."
"Why?"
"Because, you, bloke, she'll probably try to push you in."James was the first to laugh. He was soon joined by Remus, then Peter, and finally, Sirius.
"He might be right, mate." James said between laughs. "If you come back soaking wet, at least we'll know why!"
"Seriously though, Wormtail." Remus added. "Make sure you have fun. We're happy for you."
"Are you really?" Peter asked hopefully, his eyes growing wide. "Oh definitely." James agreed.
"Yes, and we'll be even prouder of you come back completely dry." Sirius answered with a grin.
