Tanner 2

I made a mistake. I really stupid one that is, but I couldn't help it. He was just so enchanting that I couldn't bring myself to look away. This also very easily could just me be trying to cope with the inevitability of death.

In district five we don't have anything interesting going on. We have a dam I guess that helps run the power in Panem, but who even cares. The most interesting thing that has ever happened to me is developing a silly crush on the male tribute from 10.

Like I said it's really a dumb thing to occur, but he's just so cute. I know in just a few days every tribute that is still alive in this zoo will fight to the death, but can't a girl admire somebodies beauty before she dies.

It's a hot day here in the zoo. I try not to think about the sweat sticking to me and the unwanted eyes of the children of the capital. All of the shade once provided by the random tree in the middle of the cage, is now gone. Due to the beaming sun.

I understand why quite of few tributes wore hats to their reaping. Especially Tanner. I know nothing about him other than his name and district, but I would gladly learn more if I can. Which will be difficult considering the alliance that the tributes from 4 have been forming.

I know it's smart of all the tributes forming small bonds with each other for protection, but I can't see the point. How are they capable of being around him and not get attached? I have nobody on my side since my district partner got shot along with the duo from 1, but even without Tanner being there I don't see the point.

I know I am not going to make it out of this shit show alive, and I have excepted that. I can't kill another human being. Especially not any of the younger tributes. Those are somebodies kids. I hope my family understands that as much as I love them, I can't fight to get home.

So instead of fighting I'll just love. Even is that love is from far away, is low key stalker-ish, and one sided. But hey we all cope in our own ways.

So as I sit here on this lonely rock in the back of the enclosure by the fence I can't help, but watch him as he converses with the male tribute from 7. His sandy blonde hair glowing in the sun, and pink dusted cheeks from the rays.

He cracks a smile and laughs at something the other tribute says. He is really a pretty boy. I know I am staring at him, but I don't really care. I am gonna die soon anyways, so I just let myself zone out until somebody breaks my focus.

"Do yah mind if I sit here?" a cheerful voice asks. I turn my focus to whoever spoke and see the female tribute from 12. Lucy, I only remember her name because she sticks out like a sore thumb. I slowly nod my head giving her the permission to sit.

"You know staring at someone for a long time is usually considered to be off puttin'? Or is staring at some random boy normal where you come from?" Lucy Gray asks with a sense of teasing in her voice.

I look at her for a second before saying "it's off putting anywhere, but when you are about to die it doesn't really matter" to hope that I don't sound to harsh I state "your dress is pretty"

"Why thank you dear" she says with her southern charm. "It was my mama's. It's like a good luck charm to me."

"That's really sweet" I say while smiling softly.

"I wish I could give you some of that luck for your little crush. Be careful with yourself. I know it's must sound strange from someone you don't know, but don't let them use your feelings against you. They are playing a dangerous game" Lucy says while gesturing over to the pack.

My eyes follow where her hand was pointed to the group of four staring at me. They all look away, but one. Me and Tanner kind of stare at each other before he looks away and joins the groups converstion.
