Clara's POV
I watched as Koda's hands gripped the wheel as we drove down the road. I could see the water from here and I got excited.
"Amber" by 311 played loudly on his Ford Bronco radio as we pulled into a parking spot. I got out of the car quickly,
"I'm going to beat you there!" I yelled as I ran across the sand, struggling a little bit as my feet sunk with each step.
"Oh no, you won't!" Koda yelled back as he caught up to me and grabbed me by the waist lifting me up,
"Hey that's cheating!" I giggled.
"Nope, I'm just winning. Let me run back and get my board, though. Find a spot to sit." His golden locks spun around and he jogged back to the car.
The beach was pretty much empty which was surprising for an August afternoon. I put down my towel in a spot far enough from the water so we wouldn't get wet.
Koda found me pretty easily and he set his stuff down beside me.
"I could live on the beach." He sighed and took a seat next to me.
We sat there in silence, other than the sound of waves crashing. His hand found itself on my thigh. For once I was actually at peace with my life.
I didn't love Koda or really find him attractive but he was a perfect distraction from certain things. He was a whole different experience than Callahan.
I miss him.
"Let's get in the water while the sun sets." Koda turned to face me and his face lit up when I looked back at him.
I stood up and took off my shirt and shorts, then followed him to the water.
I took a minute to get adjusted to the water. It wasn't freezing but it wasn't exactly warm. Too bad it only lasted 10 seconds before Koda splashed me.
I stood with my mouth wide open and I looked down at myself then back up through my eyebrows at Koda.
I splashed him even more and he picked me up, spinning as he did so. I guess we were moving pretty fast. Nothing different than Callahan though. I need to stop comparing them.
"Ready? 1,2..." Koda counted down
"No! No!" I giggled as he tossed me into the water.
"3!"
As I landed in the water I had an idea to swim under and grab his ankles.
I moved my hands in front of me to find him. Once I found his legs I pulled hard causing him to fall into the water as well.
I came back up and stood wiping my hair back. Koda came up and shook his hair on me, still smiling.
I could get used to this.
We got out once the sun had almost fully set. I slowly got out of the water. Man was I exhausted but Koda still had some pep in his step as he ran back to our spot.
Once I got back I fell to the blanket Koda had put down, almost falling asleep.
Koda laid next to me and turned onto his side to face me,
"Hi" He whispered. His little smile showed off his dimples.
"Hey" I whispered back.
He reached his hand to my face, stroking it with his thumb before he came in closer and pressed his lips to mine.
There was more passion in this one than the last, warning me that he may want to go further than this. Maybe that wasn't a bad thing...
I kissed back equally as hard as our breaths increased in speed.
Without separating our lips he moved himself on top of me but kept his left arm propped up so he wouldn't crush me. I wrapped my finger through the blonde mess on his head above me.
He moved his hand from my cheeks to my shoulders to my waist keeping it there for a minute, as if he was testing the waters.
He started to slide my bottoms down. At first I didn't react. Then I realized I couldn't do this. I wasn't going to use him to get over Callahan. I still have feelings for him, even if I do need to move on. I can't just yet.
"Wait... Koda... No." I said hesitantly and grabbed his hand.
"What? What's wrong?" He stopped so just my ass was a little exposed.
"I can't do this. I'm sorry. It's not you. I promise."
I grabbed the side of my bottoms he stretched down and pulled them back up as I sat up.
"We should probably go." I said holding back tears.
He face said it all. He didn't seem mad but disappointed.
"I'm sorry. Maybe another time." I said trying to make him feel better but he didn't give me any reassurance.
"Yeah. Let's just go." He said with and edge to his voice.
I cleaned up the towels and blanket along with our bags as Koda grabbed his board and the cooler he brought along.
We walked in silence back to the car. I threw everything in the trunk and got into to front seat with my towel wrapped around my waist.
After driving for a while with just the radio playing I saw his hand move towards the volume. He turned it down and cleared his throat,
"This is about him, isn't it?" He had a bitchy tone.
"I don't know, Koda, I just-"
"God, Clara! Can't you see that he never loved you? You were just a quick fuck for him and another girl on his roster. I know you know you're better than that." Koda glanced over at me quickly but I moved my head to look out the window.
I couldn't face him. Why was he being such a dick?
He went back to the volume and turned it up again. That's all he said the rest of the way home. I was glad.
He pulled into the driveway and I started to get out but stopped before I shut the door,
"I'll call you tomorrow." I said with no emotion
"Yeah sure." He said it in a way that made me realize he wouldn't answer it tomorrow.
I shut the door and got my bag out of the trunk. I walked away from the car and he pulled out fast and sped down the road.
