Kira was pissed. She had been annoyed at us all for the past couple of days and I don't entirely blame her. I knew she saw us when she went to the library, she'd been out the house a lot the past couple of days. Which was understandable there wasn't much room for her to avoid Dex in their house, me being there the whole weekend probably made the space seem even smaller. I got that she needed space, and she knew we knew she was avoiding us. But I do wish she'd understand that we were all just trying to do what we thought was best. "Why isn't she home yet?" If we kept her out of this then she couldn't end up getting hurt. Whether she believes it or not, she doesn't need to know everything. She especially doesn't need to know that we're gonna find out who killed Tony and WE are going to deal with them. Not the police. Us.
"What is she doing?" I love Kira like a sister, and she's more cut out for this life than a lot of people I know. But that doesn't mean she needs to risk getting arrested if we ever got caught. "Seriously, she should be back by now?" I was sitting on the armchair, allowing myself to finally relax. I was still achy from Thursday night and the soft fabric offered perfect comfort at that moment. "Do I need to go look for her?" I wished I could over some comfort to Dex; he has been pacing up and down the living room for the past half an hour, but this wasn't the time.
"Dex, she's fine. We saw her go into the library. She'll probably still be there studying." Hank said from his seat on the sofa. Although it could normally fit three people he made the couch look tiny.
"The library shut 30 minutes ago." Dex shot back. Poor Hank had only been trying to help and had gotten his head bitten off. I wanted to get up and shake him to his senses, but I didn't want to risk getting punched.
"You gotta give her time to walk home." Dex stopped in his tracks; Colin had a point. One that had apparently Dex hadn't thought about.
"Dude, just relax. She's avoiding us so of course she's not going to speed run home." Tom came into the living room from the kitchen with a questionable looking sandwich in his hands.
"What are you eating?" Lee asked. I wasn't entirely sure we wanted to know the answer. "It looks rank." Dex sighed as Lee and Tom started bickering. He was exhausted, though he was trying his best to hide it. I knew he hadn't been sleeping great since he and Kira fell out, plus the nights before had been long ones too.
"Guys, shut up." I told Lee and Tom. They looked at me as if they were about to tell me where to shove me comment. I nodded my head in Dex's direction, could they not see this was not the time to be arguing about food. Dex finally took the seat next to me. "She'll be fine." I knew I could tell him that a million times it wasn't going to help until he could believe it.

The door opened 5 minutes later, and Dex was up out his seat and across the room in 0.001 seconds. "Where have you been?" He asked Kira before she even had the chance to close the door. The rest of us stayed in the living room, this was a conversation for just the two of them. Didn't stop us from listening though.
"I didn't realise I needed to inform you of my location." Kira's voice flowed into the living room, and she didn't sound happy.
"I was worried about you." The scoff that came next was obviously Kira's. "Don't be childish Kira. Just because you're pissed off at me doesn't mean you can put yourself or any of us in danger."
"What danger? I was at the library. I know you saw me go there." Both of their voices where getting louder. This was not going to end well. It wasn't my place to stop them, but I might have to if they start saying things they don't mean.
"Tony just died Kira. Down the road! Possibly as a message to me! So, maybe, just maybe, I want to know where you are, so I know you're not next!" After Dex stopped shouting the house went silent. Then a set of feet pounded up the stairs. I got out my seat and went into the hallway.

Usually, after an argument, it was Kira who went to her room and hid from the problem for a while. So I was slightly surprised to find her in the hall with a stunned look on her face. "You ok?" She blinked a couple of times before looking at me.
"Greg, I'm sorry, I didn't think..." She didn't finish, she didn't need to. She was too wound up being angry at us for hiding things, she hadn't thought that Dex would be concerned she could be at risk of being killed too.
"I know. He's just been a bit stressed recently."
"I should maybe go talk to him." I nodded.
"We'll give you guys some space." Kira headed up the stairs and I went back into the living room.

"Come on guys, we're out of here." No one argued when I told them to leave. They knew as well as I did the two of them needed some time. Yeah our gang was like a family, but even family knew when to leave two members alone. We all filed out the front door and started heading in our own directions.
"You sure you don't want a lift?" Joe asked. Colin and Mitch had already claimed seats in his car, while the other piled into Tom's.
"Nah, it's ok. I'm just going to walk. I'll see yous tomorrow." I replied. Joe gave me a suspicious look. He hesitated until all the car doors were shut before speaking.
"You ok? You can crash at mine if you want?" I smiled.
"It's ok, coast should be clear."
"Offers still there, call me if you need." I thanked him and he got into the driver's seat of his old blue Toyota. I waved both cars off and waited until they'd driven away before I began walking in the direction of home.

After leaving Dex and Kira's it wasn't long before I turned onto my own street. I could see my house down the road and slowed my pace. That truck in the driveway meant only one thing, I'd be wrong in what I'd said to Joe. I should've stayed at Dex's. I contemplated turning around and going back, praying the siblings had stopped fighting and made up by the time I got there, but I knew I couldn't. While Joe's offer was there too, a part of me recognized at some point I needed to learn to deal with this without running away, without hiding at Dex's, or anyone else's. As much as I wanted to do just that, I forced myself to keep walking. The white door was so unassuming, and so good at hiding what goes on behind it. if this was a cartoon a grey cloud would be hovering over the building. I took a deep breath and turned my key in the lock. No more running away, no more hiding.
