*Knock* *Knock*
We've been knocking on Jay's door for quite a while now.
The sun had lost its shine and the darkness of the night was beginning to close in.
Standing at her door, I could sense some movement inside the house but no one was coming to answer the door. Weird.
*Knock* *Knock* I tried for the eleventh time. Still no answer.
Eventually, we gave up and headed down the front pathway to leave.
"Heyyy! Amz! Wait," a shout came from behind just as we were about to go through the gate. It was Jay standing at her doorstep, ushering us to go back up. She was in her green night-time pyjamas, so I'm assuming she has been at home all day.
"What took you so long to answer the door?" I ask whilst shoving past her to get inside.
"Ahh, just um. Someone was here."
"Who? Have they gone?"
"Yeah, they've gone now."
"But we didn't see anyone leave the house? What are you talking about?"
Jay heaved a sigh,"Guys, please, listen, go have a seat. I'll make us some coffee and then come explain myself."
Jay arrived with three mugs of coffee in her hand. The smell had instantly got my smell receptors doing their job. I guess I was quite tired from the long walk. "So, tell." I started as we began to sip the coffee which was settling in on my tongue and then fell down my throat. It felt good.
"Well," Jay proceeded as she sat down on the sofa. "The reason behind me taking so long to open the door is that I was actually, well, umm, painting...someone. A boy. So technically, no actual person was here..it was just my painting."
"What did the painting contain so weird that you couldn't show it us?" Ninj frowned.
"No no no, how was I supposed to know it was you guys knocking on my door? It could've been my parents or neighbour," she replied as she got up to look for something. She moved her cream coloured sofa away from the wall and pulled out a large canvas, almost as big as herself. It had a pencil drawing of a boy who seemed to resemble someone I have definitely seen before.
This was unbelievable. The drawing was of a boy who went to the same school as us when we all used to attend Lama King High. Why the hell would Jay draw that prick? "Jay. This is Liam, right?"
Jay touched the face of the drawing with her feminine hands showing her perfectly painted pink nails,"Yeah..it's Liam. Liam Cob."
"You've got to be kidding me." Ninj stated with a look on her face that portrayed utter disbelief.
"Yes. You've got to," I agreed. "This is Liam Cob we are talking about, Jay. Liam Cob."
"And? Okay, look, I know you and everyone else think he's like some kind of a psycho druggie, but honestly, if you actually look beyond that and at least TRY to get to know him, you'll realise he ain't all that bad," Jay told us, still mesmerized by her drawing.
"Why all of a sudden him?" I question her. Our whole gang hated the guts out of Liam Cob at school, even though he was probably one of the most good-looking human being known to earth.
"It kind of started off at a party."
"Party?"
"Yeah, last Saturday. It was his girlfriend's late night birthday party. That's when we started talking. We talked a lot, you know and then felt like we definitely need to exchange numbers, and so we did."
"Obviously. He's Liam Cob. Obviously he'd make you feel like you need more of him." Jay wasn't exactly the type of girl who would date any guy she finds on the street, so the fact that she was into Liam Cob, was quite worrying. A decent girl like her and a prick like him just don't go together. "You can't fall for him, c'mon! You know how all these guys are! He's not right for you, Jay! What is wrong with you?!"
"Says the one who dated Harrison, the guy who is known for nothing else but drugs and being a man-slag! Oh, and did I forget to mention how big of a freaking heart-breaking cunt he was?! How he had decided to sleep with another girl on your fucking birthday and told you it was all your fault for not giving him what he wanted?!" Jay protested right in my face. The words broke through me like smashing glass. Her words brought back everything. Everything I've always wanted to forget. I know she didn't mean to cause any hurt to me, but that hurt. And it hurt a lot. "Don't you think I know all this, Jay? Don't you think I've had it enough? I don't need reminding, Jay, I don't..." My eyes started to tear, and by the look on Jay's face, I knew she regretted everything she just spoke. She felt guilty and hurt.
"Oh, Amz. I'm so sorry, you know I just get really angry when I think of what Harrison had done to you. And what angers me even more is that you forgave him, you didn't hold a single grudge. I'm ever so sorry, Amz," she wrapped her arm around me which just made my tear even more but made me feel safe also,"I know you want well for me, but this time I know Liam and me are going to work out, no matter what and how many differences we have," she sounded like she knew what she was doing, and that made me feel like I should allow her the chance to give a chance to this new relationship.
We said our byes and left Jay with her daily soaps on TV. Outside, it was quite dark with the yellow street lights now visible, adding some glimmer to the darkness of the street. I don't know why or what made me do it, but I looked up at the window adjacent to the top bit of Jay's house. At the window, I saw a young looking boy in a white t-shirt, looking down at me with his light shade of blue eyes. We continued to hold both our gazes on eachother for about 10 seconds, and then I realised it was him. Betz. He wasn't dressed at all like how I had seen him dress many times before. This time he didn't have his hood on, and neither did he have on his brown badboy-jacket, which meant that his perfectly spiked up blonde hair, that beautifully matched his fair complexion, and his muscular, firm arms were clearly exposed.
He smiled, showing one side of his unusually straight set of teeth. I smiled too, which came to me as a shock a few seconds later.
Pulling the red curtains to close, he raised his arm, waved goodbye, and left.
"Let's go," Ninj yawned.
