Time went by, and she avoided talking to him about what happened. They moved around together but not like before. Dade never brought it up but it was clear that Chae was still mad at him.
'But that's not enough reason to keep distance. I don't get it', he thought. He'd known her to be a chatterbox but she hardly spoke(to him) these days. He'd also noticed that whenever she wasn't with him or doing whatever, she'd either be with Brian or with her odd new circle of friends.
It was by chance that they met at the vending machine that day, she was getting loads of snacks. He got sick of the silence and spoke up.
Dade: Tell me what I did wrong, 'cause I don't get it.
Chae Rin: You blocked our faces as if we were about to do something wrong, which wasn't necessary.
Dade: Didn't seem like it, though.
Chae Rin: Even if something happens, what's it to you?
Dade: What do you mean?
Chae Rin: What you heard.
Dade: ...
Chae Rin: It's not your problem. Just don't butt in anymore.
Dade: I can't believe you. You actually fell for him? Are you aware that he's dated and dumped about half of the girls in this school? And you're willing to be used and dumped by him??
Chae Rin: Those are just rumours. Plus, who are you to judge? You do the same thing too, so leave it be. I won't get hurt if that's what you worried about.
Dade was at a loss for words. She'd definitely lost it. It was like Brian had changed her from the inside out: she was being impulsive, unreasonable, and obnoxious.
That's when he realised that all hope was lost. She'd learn the truth in a painful way and hopefully would overcome it.
Dade: ..you've changed. I don't even know who you are anymore.
She started crying, not because of his remarks, but because he wasn't supporting her, as the friend she wanted him to be.
Chae Rin: Why can't you just be happy for me? Why must you judge every guy that crosses my path? Why are you so bitter?
It's fine. Keep on hating while you go about, being happy while playing others. I'm done talking to you.
Dade: ..that's how you see me. It's alright.
Chae Rin: Don't come looking for me again.
Dade: Goodluck.
'So this's how it ends huh' he thought, chuckling within.
It sounded funny that she called him a player when she was there the whole time, watching as he avoided all advances made towards him.
The internal laughter slipped out - he laughed out quietly, and sighed. Dade walked away from her, for good.
During the course of a month, Chae Rin had taken a turn for the worst.
She'd joined sororities and confederations of all sorts and lost focus in her academics. The term exams were approaching.
Dade shook his head in dismay as he watched her go astray. There was nothing he could do since she kicked him out of her life.
He recently discovered that she didn't make his existence as her best friend known to her close relations. That hurt him, but he moved on, treating her existence likewise - as though she never existed.
