Gavin Reed hated androids. He hated how they talked, how they moved and how they looked. Especially the toaster of a detective that had been working with them since shortly before the revolution. Half a year has passed since the androids were acknowledged as sentient and he still couldn't fully get used to them.
They had "rights" now. Gavin had to treat these advanced computers with respect - by law. He scoffed.
The new laws haven't been established for long yet. There were many like Reed who were either afraid of the androids or just outright hated them.
Gavin belonged to the second categorie."Grab me a coffee, tincan" he ordered as he entered the office. Obviously directed at the android sitting opposite to Lieutenant Hank Anderson. The robot was about to stand up, but the old man signaled him to sit back down again; most likely overriding Reeds command.
He was painfully aware that the RK800 wouldn't do as he wanted as long as Hank was around. Just as painfully aware at the fact, that Hank was technically his superior.
"Cut it out Reed." the old man demanded, earning an annoyed look by Gavin. "What? Maybe it wanted to make me a coffee, before you made it sit back down. I thought you were all about bodily autonomy in here." he protested, heading for the coffee machine himself. He knew the old man was about to contradict his weak statement, but since no such protest arose he figured Connor had signaled Hank to just drop the topic.
It was programmed to keep the working environment as positive and productive as he could. Probably calculating that an argument with Reed would lead to nothing, but less work being done.
At least that's what Gavin figured. He'd seen how calculating the robot had been before it deviated, always speaking in probabilities, and he was pretty sure not much had changed since then.
It sometimes made a few snarky comments now, but that was about the only change he noticed.Gavin came back with his hot coffee in hand and sat down at his desk. He still had a few cases on hold, but the evidences were few and didn't seem to point anywhere.
He picked up the few papers that were scattered around his desk. Fowler often complained about the mess, but he found it easier to organize his thoughts that way.He looked at a picture of a busted android, blue thirium spilling from it's mouth and lower regions. A homeless person had found it discarded in a back alleyway and had allarmed a passerby who then called the police.
A short analysis by Conner had concluded that the android had been raped and strangled to death. The order in which it had happened wasn't clear.Reed rolled his eyes as he remembered that conversation. "Rape?" he mocked "These things don't even feel pain".
Connor shook his head. "They can feel fear though and emotional pain." Reed had only scoffed at the comment; disagreeing, but without a snappy comeback at hand.Connors analysis of the crime scene had concluded that the android had been 'raped' earlier, but had been repaired by his previous owner. After the revolution the android had left the 46 year old man and started working as a zookeeper.
Since the thirium was still blue by the time the picture was taken, the crime couldn't have happened many hours before the trashed up thing was found.
It was entirely possible that his previous owner had been filled with rage, because the android had abandonned him after gaining consciousness. Seeking revenge and raping it one last time, before ending it's life.
Connor had estimated the probabilty of that at 36%, though further investigation revealed that the owner had an aliby for that night - dropping the chances to 7%.
