"He what?!" Severus roared, his body so tightly wound she expected him to pop like a spring. He had seen the ending, the wide-eyed look on her face as she stared at him through Arvell's ghost, but he had not seen the rest. He was rightfully furious, as was she.
He hadn't let her go. She did her best to explain what happened, her voice muffled in his chest, his arms wrapped tightly around her. She felt those petals start to form, the ones meant to protect her.
The cryptic things Arvell had said danced in her head. The way he said he knew when she would die, it ate at her. The toxic taste of him in her mouth. Her hands were shaking as Severus began to storm through the house, unsure of what he was looking for, his rage leading the way.
She folded in on herself, but only for a moment. She wouldn't let Arvell stomp on her. Whatever it was he was trying to do, she would not crumble, "I'm going to find him," she said with steely reserve.
Severus' footsteps halted just down the hall and an uncomfortable quiet settled in the very bones of the house, "No."
"You can't keep me here like a prisoner Severus," he reappeared in front of her, "He found me. He came to me, here!" Tears began to prick her eyes.
"I won't chance losing you! Not again!"
Jynx struggled to find the words, the ones that would reassure him but she came up empty. Her hands gripped the sand but each grain fell through her fingers, "You won't," was all she could manage.
His eyes tore through her, "I cannot live a life devoid of you. It would lose its shape and crumble around me until I would surely go mad, clawing at the pieces to build you back into it." His hands found her shoulders, shaking gently, his tone carving out the raw plea in his words, "My heart does not beat for me anymore and my life is not my own since I met you."
"I love you, Severus. Your shadow is not one I could ever live without. Our heartbeats in the dark, but I cannot stay here and wait for death."
Severus raised a dark brow, her words coursing through his mind, "He said he knew exactly how you would die, perhaps it's a trap."
"I feel it is most certainly a trap."
"Oh by all means let us just walk into it then," said Severus with dripping sarcasm.
Jynx placed her hand on his face and he cradled against it before she pressed him against the wall and placed her lips on his. It was a kiss violent with need and there was no toxic taste, no sickening churn in her gut.
It amazed her that even with the threat of death and the barbs that seemed to jut from the corners of her life, he always seemed to smooth them. Her body, her life, they formed to him. The details became a fog as she let herself get swept up in him. The kitchen table still jutted into the hall from her earlier practice and Severus used it to his full advantage.
She wrapped her legs around him and disposed of their clothes with one determined movement, her lips still locked with his. The chill of the table clashed with the heat of her back as he laid her down, a mixture that only heightened the pain of the teeth sinking into her neck.
The anger that hung in the very air mixed with the lust between them. Severus' hips moved in alarming rhythm with the slamming beat of her heart. Her moans minced with his, deeper and louder with each furious thrust. If only she could die with this very feeling in her chest, the yearning need.
The table disappeared and Severus held her by the back of her thighs as he drove into her. She gripped the corner of the wall to steady herself, her nails digging into the wood as the orgasm tore through her. Her words were muttered swears but Severus didn't stop. She pulsed around him and he continued his onslaught of thrusts, her body shuddering as his fingers left their impressions in her thighs.
